With heavy hearts, we regret to announce that Khaosod English department has been disbanded by Matichon Group, its parent company.
We received word of the decision on Tuesday, March 2. We were informed that the Khaosod English has failed to achieve a desirable profitability, and the company can no longer subsidize the operation amid the current financial situation, which has been made worse by the coronavirus pandemic.
The decision marked the end of the road for Khaosod English (founded April 2013) after nearly a decade of reporting on the weird, wonderful, and chaotic happenings in Thailand.
Now, some good news: None of our staff has been laid off. Upon the disbandment, Khaosod English employees have been integrated into Khaosod Online’s hugely successful video production department.
From there, we will be producing bilingual video reports and livestreams of important events. Some of the videos will be narrated in both Thai and English, while others will be subtitled. And yes, the star duo Pravit Rojanaphruk and Tappanai Boonbandit will still host and narrate their video reports together.
Khaosod Online’s pivot to the video platform has proven to be very profitable and popular in the recent years, and we’re looking forward to working closely with the talented individuals at the department.
Subscribe to Khaosod’s Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter accounts to follow and support our work.
Khaosod English’s website will still be available after the disbandment, although we will cease all news content production on the website from today, March 6.
Existing contracts with our sponsors will be honored. Sponsored content and advertorials will continue to be posted on Khaosod English as agreed with our partners.
Pravit’s popular weekly column will also continue, but discussions are ongoing at the moment as to its format and placement. We will update you with the information as soon as it is available.
Finally, we would like to thank each and every one of our readers for your comments and feedback over the past years. We hope to count on your support in our new endeavors.

Re: Announcement: Khaosod English to be Disbanded
In a world filled with junta propaganda, censorship, social media pollution, spam and fake news, it is a shame to lose another good publication. Here's what the Enquirer said about it ...
Thai Enquirer statement on disbanding of Khaosod English
Khaosod English announced its disbandment after 8 years of operations. It is a sad day for English-language journalism in Thailand.
For years, Khaosod English stood alone with Prachathai as the voice of liberalism in an increasingly government-influenced conservative space. The work that they have done since their founding in 2013 have been invaluable and is a testament to the fine men and women who work at the organization.
While the news that no staff will be let go is immensely positive, it is a sad day to see the demise of a cherished competitor. The fine journalists at KSE pushed us each and every day to be better, to strive for better journalism and to be accountable to the truth and our readers.
We wish the staff of KSE nothing but the best and look forward too seeing their continued coverage in other mediums under the Matichon Umbrella.

It doesn't leave us much, the Enquirer probably being the best of a bad bunch now.
