Mr. Nopporn Wutthikul wins another term as Hua Hin Mayor
Hua Hin's Mayor, Mr. Nopporn Wutthikul won another term in office at yesterday's election.

I'm quite happy with the result. He has been in office most of the time I've lived here, and I have seen many improvements to the town in that time (of course it isn't perfect, but TIT ). More importantly, whenever we've seen him out, he has always found time to stop and talk with Mrs BB and I. He comes across as a nice guy.
I personally offer my congratulations.

Being a nice guy is fine, now, if he would fix the streets, fill the potholes, widen the narrow well travelled Sois it would help.

I think that is a bigger problem than it seems. The majority of these sois are bounded by private land. Indeed, when I bought the land my house is currently on, there was no sign of a soi. On checking the maps, there was a designated soi that went adjacent to my land and therefore my front gate. It was non-existant so we had to clear the way. Since then it's been taken over by the Tessabah, lit, drained and concreted.
I'm not sure how 'compulsory purchase' works in Thailand but I'd guess it's not easy.

It will be interesting to see if they can fix the very end of soi102, which is little more than a single lane - in parts - dirt track. Its only about 100 metres long and is increasingly used since they fixed the rest of the road. I have seen officials there checking it out, but I would imagine it would require a very small land grab, a yard or so either side, to complete. It's not used for anything, its just a mix of trees, bush and rubbish.
Talk is cheap

I don't think a land grab there is necessary. It's marked on the map as a soi. It's just not developed. It just needs money thrown at it to complete it to connect with a main soi coming off 112.

I look at many sois now, and think back 9 years to when I first moved here. He has done a sterling job IMHO.handdrummer wrote: ↑Mon Mar 29, 2021 10:46 am Being a nice guy is fine, now, if he would fix the streets, fill the potholes, widen the narrow well travelled Sois it would help.
My soi was a semi concreted dirt track, with a lake (giant puddle) half way down. On really wet days, the road became a river, and we've actually seen fish swimming down it. These days it is properly concreted with excellent drainage. This has been repeated in many parts of Hua Hin.
I remember before the previous Mayoral election 8 years ago, he was stood outside my front gate with his cronies being spoken quite strongly to about the state of the soi by residents. He promised it would be fixed, and it was.
I agree, there are still some disgraces e.g. Soi 94 repaired by installing a huge pot hole and the perpetual Soi 88 outside the courts, but these are features of Hua Hin. The place wouldn't be the same without them.

In the 7 1/2 yrs. that I've been here, I've seen Soi 68 repaired, in the usual manner; dump some black stuff in the holes, not let it cure properly and 4-6 months later the holes reappear. When it rains the soi floods and it's so narrow 2 cars can barely pass each other. Klong road was a 2 lane, then they made it into a 4 lane with a divider then, they cut holes in the divider to make turns and put a stop light at Snmorprong. That was good. i don't know why they put 4 stop lights at the intersection. Maybe someone's relative is in the stop light business. When it rains the road floods, because they put the drains, into the canal, on the high side (center) of the road and the water can't run down to the canal. As has been said before, they never think things through and Buddha forbid, they should ask somebody. As Maxina Porkchops said, in her Jamaican lilt, one night in Hunky Hoagie's Handy Hangout; "If you don know, you better ask someBODY."Big Boy wrote: ↑Mon Mar 29, 2021 1:30 pmI look at many sois now, and think back 9 years to when I first moved here. Maybe we're more highly thought of on this side of town
To me, the Khlong Road is a complete dogs arse. It must be one of the worst dual carriageways anywhere, with some of the stupidest road rules. Did the mayor's office sanction it? I don't know.
Soi 68? Are you sure that is a problem (pork shop to crazy railway crossing?)? Or am I thinking of the wrong soi?

Yes, it is a soi. At either end of the dirt track it is sealed and marked. But is it wide enough for two lanes between the two?

You're right, I'm wrong, I should have said Soi 58. My fingers have grown in width commensurate with my age and body.Big Boy wrote: ↑Mon Mar 29, 2021 2:58 pm Maybe we're more highly thought of on this side of town

Is the very end of Soi 102 within the municipality area or is it in Thap Tai?caller wrote:It will be interesting to see if they can fix the very end of soi102, which is little more than a single lane - in parts - dirt track. Possibly Soi 56/58 will be fixed when the rail double track is near completion and as part of the work for the bridge over the tracks.handdrummer wrote:You're right, I'm wrong, I should have said Soi 58. I hope so and I hope it happens in my lifetime. I understand the purpose of the bridge but I've never seen a Thai walking in that area, or, to be fair, many other areas.hhinner wrote: ↑Mon Mar 29, 2021 4:30 pmPossibly Soi 56/58 will be fixed when the rail double track is near completion and as part of the work for the bridge over the tracks.handdrummer wrote:You're right, I'm wrong, I should have said Soi 58. The bridge is for vehicular traffic.handdrummer wrote:I hope so and I hope it happens in my lifetime.
