Google Maps

Post by PeteC »

BB, In a different thread you mentioned that "you checked your log of places visited...". How do you find that please?

I went on an extensive drive today to a variety of locations and upon return Google Maps on my phone doesn't show that I was anywhere. :?

Perhaps I don't have it set up properly or don't know where to look, but I thought when you allowed it to know your location it would automatically record where you've been.

Google Maps actually send me an e-mail every month. However, I know there is a way of pulling it, so I'll have a look.

Go into your Google Account, and choose Data and Privacy. There is an option, 'Things you've done and places you've been.' Under History Settings, there are a couple of options that might give what you want.

Maps Timeline is the beastie - I find it fascinating that my computer can tell me what I did on any day, right back to 2009.

I've always been amazed at that. Shows me where I've been when touring 2 or 3 years ago right down to the hotels I've stayed at. Incredible.
However, I don't know what settings have to be in effect. I, personally, have never altered anything.

I will check all later tonight or in the morning. :thumb:

I can see some people cringing when reading this thread concerning privacy issues. I used to be like that but at this stage in life, who cares!?

I've got nothing to hide, so I just love receiving my monthly e-mail showing what a boring old fart I've been during Covid. It even tells the time I've been somewhere, so curfew breakers be aware

I'm even more impressed now. I've just put in the date of my son's wedding (March 2019). It tells me what time I left home, what time I arrived at the morning ceremony. It gives me photos of the morning ceremony. It tells me what time I left the morning ceremony and what time I arrived at the registrar at Market Village (it even tells me where I bought everybody an ice cream). Again, photos at the registrar's office. It then tells me I went home for an hour (to feed the dogs). It tells me what time I left home, and what time I arrived at the hotel for the evening reception, again with photos.

OK, Big Brother is watching, but it is brilliant. This is all your fault PeteC.

It needs to be activated in your Google account. Find the app "Google" and go to settings. Under settings find "Location" there you need to chose "Always".

Leaving the location/GPS turned off until you actually need it to navigate somewhere also helps prevent big brother tracking you (and saves battery life)!

From your picture ID icon at the top right of the Explore tab, a list opens and among it you'll have "your timeline" which will tell you day by day where you've been and in the same list you have "settings" in which you have various choices.
