Tall trees on the highway near Tham Rong

Post by wenshidi »

On the section of highway between Thayang and Petchaburi, close to Outlet Mall https://www.google.com/maps/place/%E0%B ... 99.9168784, there are lots of incredibly tall trees, that I have rarely seen elsewhere.

Does anybody know what species of tree these are and how so many have managed to survived at this particular location?

Sorry, I don't know what kind of trees those are. However, I do know that before the highway was widened there were many more of these trees spread out over a much longer stretch of highway. It was always one of my favorite parts of the trip between Bangkok and Hua Hin. I guess they survived because they were not in the way of progress.

Can you remember when the highway was widened?

By the way, they are Yang Na Yai trees - the tallest trees in Thailand.

It was about the time I bought my condo in Cha Am, so around 2014.

Thanks for that. I often wondered as I always admired them.
