Since the advent of the Beatles, no one under the age of 25, in the genres of pop, rock, and its offshoots, has had any interest in making music that appeals to anyone other than their peers. The sound may appeal but the lyrics are mostly meaningless to those of a generation or more older than the groups.thecolonel wrote: ↑Sat May 14, 2022 5:48 pmDidn't get there last nighthuahin4ever wrote:Big weekend for those who like BKP.

3 men down
This last one will have the young teenagers crowding maybe. Lot of pretty ones to glaze at
YNWA!
Just had a skim thru 3 man down vid..... Boy band shyte!
Pity as BKP occasionally get some genuinely good bands whose sound can quite appeal to the Euro/US older generation....

Off the top of my head.... Good call on LG. I would add Sam Fender, Richard Hawley to name a few/lot. Maybe the OP needs reminding who was Frank Sinatras' target audience in the 40's, Elvis' in the 50's. Never heard of Jake Bugg but like what I've downloaded thus far.

Rock & Roll came before the Beatles, be bop a lula.......
I suspect a lot of us are grounded at the music and / or artists we grew up with.

Over 60years since the Beatles. I'm betting there are many bands with a wide age spectrum of appeal. I would be interested to hear what music did appeal to all before the sixties. Maybe the rat pack or Doris Day or my granddad at his local.

If you limit the choices to white folks' pop music, that's a good bet, but there was more than pop music to listen to on the radio in the US. White people weren't the only inhabitants of that country.ahandpatsy wrote: ↑Mon May 16, 2022 4:31 pmOver 60years since the Beatles. Funnily enough, that was the same in the UK. Which is why so many UK bands of the early 60's cited Blues as their major inspiration. And then there was ska and reggae.handdrummer wrote: ↑Mon May 16, 2022 6:14 pmIf you limit the choices to white folks' pop music, that's a good bet, but there was more than pop music to listen to on the radio in the US. True but I was referencing the mid 40's onward. I should have been more specific. There are parallels though. Of course, historically it goes back to the 30s & the widespread listening to the radio but that was before my time. We had a radio, and a record player in the early 40s and I listened to a lot of music before I even knew who I was listening to.caller wrote: ↑Mon May 16, 2022 7:05 pmFunnily enough, that was the same in the UK. I was going to say ABBA but 3 of them were over 25 when they broke through.handdrummer wrote:Since the advent of the Beatles, no one under the age of 25, in the genres of pop, rock, and its offshoots, has had any interest in making music that appeals to anyone other than their peers. Re-read the first sentence for comprehension. I'll guess that you were probably around their age when you started listening to them.thecolonel wrote: ↑Tue May 17, 2022 9:33 amI was going to say ABBA but 3 of them were over 25 when they broke through.handdrummer wrote:Since the advent of the Beatles, no one under the age of 25, in the genres of pop, rock, and its offshoots, has had any interest in making music that appeals to anyone other than their peers. I truly don't understand your point in the above post(having stated Abba don't qualify)handdrummer wrote:Re-read the first sentence for comprehension. And no, Abba older than me... comfortably
And in any event I disagree with you. Plenty of artists post Beatles and under 25 made music that appealed to a wide range age groups
Eg Simon and Garfunkel
Hendrix
Michael Jackson
Pink Floyd
Eric Clapton
Stones
White Stripes
Adele
Ed Sheeran()

Re: Musical Genres & Ability to Entertain
Maybe I'm not being clear enough.
I DID NOT Say that artists didn't make music that appealed to older people, I said, they didn't make music FOR older people. They were and are writing for their peers.
Why is that so difficult to understand?

Re: Musical Genres & Ability to Entertain
That has always been the case, when the Beatles and Stones started a lot of the over 60's were aghast at their music and the way they dressed.handdrummer wrote: ↑Wed May 18, 2022 8:49 pm Maybe I'm not being clear enough.

I feel the same now, most music I hear on the radio is horrendous. Fashion wise the amount of people having tattoos all over there bodies. Influenced by the modern stars.
I do not understand grime, house, or shouting loud into a microphone very fast. I am getting old, for me the best musical period was from the late 50's to 1970,
Woke up this morning breathing that's a good start to the day.
