I’ve heard the term used on UK traffic cop programmes as a “Road Traffic Collision” but the use here may be totally different?

Probably Road Traffic Collision ???

Edit, posted same time as DB, I think police use RTA, A for accident on TV programmes.

I think they are constructing a wide road alongside the railway which should reduce the problem

Yes. It will be 2 lane each way road.
Traffic today along the railway road was caused by work on one of the railway crossing 'arms' at the silly roundabout. It appeared that they closed and opened that side every 15 mins or so causing a buildup of traffic along the railway road and from Petchkasem.

Why on earth do they choose to do it in the middle of the day. No planning.

RTC is road traffic collision, it replaced RTA, road traffic accident in the UK many years ago, even before I retired.

Gridlock has returned!

2030 hrs Phetkasem North is extremely busy very slow moving traffic

Many have turned left into soi 94 where the traffic is occasionally at a complete standstill

Im around this area every night at this time and I estimate four times the number of vehicles

There is a lot of water on the roads though in certain parts so maybe flooding is the cause

EDIT

30 mins later it's pretty much back to normal

Just returned from Hua Hell and the traffic is back at nightmare proportions - it appears that Bangkok has the whole week off and decided to spend it sitting in their cars in Hua Hin.

Was glad to get out of Dodge!

Agreed. I found that with so many regular 'trippers' from BKK, they've even sussed out the back roads which we all use to avoid Petchkasem. Consequently, these 'quiet' soi's are also very busy.

OMG, I've just got home from the lake. Petchkasem was busy, but I've seen it busier. However, when I turned into Soi 94, I'd never known it so bad. Traffic was often stood still, and it must have taken 10 to 15 minutes to get to the Initial dog leg.

Just had the weekend in HH and the traffic on Sunday was diabolical. Downtown is dead, everything is closed or boarded up, the streets were empty, and very few people were seen about but you wouldn't think it looking at the roads which were gridlocked.

Why do Bangkok people drive all the way to Hua Hin every weekend just to sit in their cars on Petchkasem Road for a couple of days? Surely the idea is to get away from a traffic-clogged city at the weekends, not drive to one.

Agree it's ridiculous. What on earth are they going to do about it(Phetkasem Rd) in the future?

It's only going to get much worse

Is a new inner ring road required?

Has one already been proposed?

The highway bypass certainly doesn't solve the problem

So ideally, going North there would be a road that goes straight on at Baan Kiang Fah(take the flyover for the city only) and by passes the City and re joins at say Soi 6?

There would be exits for Soi 102, 94, 88, and Pala U

So if someone could just organise it please I'd be very grateful!! ImageImageImage

Is the new dual carriageway alongside the railway going to be the new inner Ringroad?

Now that Songkran madness is over, town traffic should significantly ease until December/

Removal of or fixing of the Bangkok Hospital lights would ease problems at the Southern end of town. This has been mentioned previously by somebody on here. I hadn't noticed, but they are right, that set of lights is responsible for horrendous tailbacks when busy. I now understand why they used to turn them off when traffic was busy.

Does anyone know what they are doing along the Klong Road? They appear to be 'boxing' in at least one of the canals for some considerable length and I could only assume the reason for covering it, is to create another traffic lane? But some sort of works is continuing from the HH end to soi2 at least, as I drove that route yesterday. It's a huge undertaking and nearer soi2 end, there are numerous drainage pipes left by the canal. As this road eventually merges with the bypass heading south up by Cha am, they could be planning an upgrade along it's whole length to take more traffic.

Those lights at the hospital appears to be void of any time intervals. Once green, pressing the crossing button immediately activates a light change.
Regarding an 'inner ringroad', I'm only guessing but I believe the the 'klong road' will be widened and ultimately link up with the proposed dual carriageway passing the railway station. It appears that work is currently ongoing filling in the klong (replacing with an underground pipe). If I'm right then that would certainly relieve the traffic on Petchkasem.

The vast majority of the Klong Road heading away from HH is now dual carriageway - the last remaining stretch before you reach the bypass is getting the final strip of tarmac as I type this - probably finished this week and will provide a reasonable amount of capacity on the north of HH - of course some of the biggest issues are in the central area.
