No Michelin restaurants in Hua Hin
I saw this in BKK Post and found it interesting. I enjoy eating and have enjoyed meals in Michelin starred restaurants and hole in the wall Mom and Pop places, more in the later category.
But living in Hua Hin there is a ton of restaurants, but it got me wondering why no Michelin starred places, I men Udon Thani has 7 .

The proper function of man is to live, not to exist. I shall not waste my days in trying to prolong them. I shall use my time.

I see that VFM is one of the factors taken into account, that would put Hua Hin in a difficult position for a start.
Having visited for many years and also lived in Korat and also as a regular visitor to Khon Kaen, there are a good few restaurants in both cities that I always enjoy returning to, where food is always excellent and the prices silly cheap when compared to HH. Same for a great Vietnamese place in Udon Thani.
Weekending Bangkonians can have a negative impact and from a couple of experiences, some restaurants in Hua Hin that have achieved word of mouth & social media 'famous' status, can get complacement. My other half and her niece were once served a dish which included a raw whole crab, direct from the freezer, rather than just chilled and seemed most put out when protests were made.

What about Penlaos, Hua Hin. There is something about being awarded the MICHELIN Bib Gourmand for the year 2023. Does that count?
I've eaten there a couple of times. Not really my kind of food, but I've enjoyed what I've had, Thais seem to love it.

Re: No Michelin restaurants in Hua Hin
Doesn't sound worthy of Michelin status?????
Re: No Michelin restaurants in Hua Hin
Rather than any guide, I woild rather follow the natives, unless I am told it is 'famous' meaning it was once very good, but now just rest on their laurels.

I agree.
I was going somewhere for a meal with friends today at lunchtime. I had a look at the reviews last night, and wondered why we were going there - they were terrible.
We went today and it was an experience that I hadn't had in Thailand since the late 80s/early 90s. Back in the days when the staff were very attentive, and could not do enough for us. The food was excellent, the location was great, and the staff brilliant - not a mobile phone in sight
I guess such fantastic service has actually phased out over the last 30 years. Today's service really brought back memories of Thailand that made me fall in love with the country in the first place. Had I listened to the reviews, I would never have gone there.

Yes, no problem. It was Sailom.

Which just goes to show how different we all are. I have never written a review of the place, but I would say it was just average for food. And I have eaten there a good few times, but not for a while. I have only eaten Thai there.
However, the beach front location, with easy car parking, is amongst the best.

Not to mention those "terrible" reviews had to come from somewhere . . .
Re: No Michelin restaurants in Hua Hin
Exactly, and I may have caught them on a good day - who knows?
