3 killed in train crash soi 94

Post by Pagey »

Three people were killed and another seriously injured after the car they were travelling in was hit by a train at the level crossing on Soi 94 in Hua Hin early on Thursday morning.

The accident happened at approximately 4am when a white Mazda sedan was hit by the No 86 express train which operates between Nakhon Si Thammarat and Bangkok.

The train had been travelling south after stopping Hua Hin Train Station.

Rescue workers attending the scene, which included first responders from Sawang Hua Hin Thammasathan Foundation, officers from Hua Hin Police Station and medical personnel from Hua Hin Hospital, found the Mazda overturned. One of the deceased was found inside the Mazda, the others had been thrown from the vehicle.

A fourth person was found to have suffered serious injuries and was cut from the vehicle before being rushed to hospital.

One of the deceased was a senior officer from Hua Hin Police Station.

Investigators are working to ascertain how and why the accident occurred.

It's only a halfway barrier there. Every time I'm stopped at that crossing, I see plenty dicing with death. taking the diagonal route. Some people are just too impatient to wait 2 minutes.

That photo is from the original article I referenced. I didn't post the photo for obvious reasons.

I cannot understand this when a simple look both ways to check if clear, even if you decide to avoid the barrier, no difference than pulling out on a busy highway like Petchasem bypass, if anything safer crossing a railway line, trains not exactly TGVs... I would suggest had diminished awareness for some reason  But have to be careful what is said as was a police officer. Sad

Most drivers here don't look when pulling out onto a highway either. There was a horrific crash caught on camera on Thai news yesterday showing exactly that - multiple fatalities there also.

4-00 am, black as inside a dogs guts. The headlight on a train shines a long way!

Simple look both ways to check is clear ???? At 4 am in the dark almost nobody can evaluate the distance of lights moving and especially their speed ! And most people underestimate speed of trains (even if they are not tgv). I remember of an experienced made in France about train crossing and 75 % percent of people failed to evaluate the time the train need to be on them.

Don't need Columbo for this one.

According to the Bangkok Post link they were returning at 4 a.m. from a party, and so the driver was in all probability intoxicated and the lights of the approaching train will have barely registered with him as he ploughed on regardless.

There is a video online now showing what happened. The car did stop for a while, the barriers were down and warning lights flashing etc then the driver decided to drive around the barriers just as the train was coming. 100% drivers fault.

A daily scenario - he obviously didn't make it in time. No surprises there then.

As I've said above, it happens every time the barriers come down on Soi 94. Not just Thais either.

On youtube there are hundreds of videos showing level crossing collisions, mostly in the USA.
It is a good job this train wasn't derailed.
The driver thought that he could get a cross, he got one OK, a marble one. RIP.

I see they still haven't changed the barriers to the gated variety so as to stop people chancing it

Nor will they ever!
