Blood pressure medication

Post by derek60 »

My wife takes Lisinopril to control high blood pressure but due to some confusion at our doctor's in the UK she didn't manage to obtain enough for our entire stay before we left. No problem, I though, we can just buy it in Thailand. But I have tried all the pharmacys in BluPort and Market Village and it doesn't seem to be available. Does anyone have any idea how we can get hold of it?

If nobody else can help you, I have 2 suggestions:

1. Try the pharmacy outside Baan Khun Por - they are very good. There is also a decent pharmacy on the right hand side as you walk up the Night Market Soi.

2. Failing that, I would turn up to the Premium Clinic at Hua Hin Hospital on any weekday between 9 and 4 - they will help with either the same medication, or will identify an acceptable substitute until you get home. This option will involve your wife seeing a doctor, but better to be sure.

This link may be of interest:
I've been told by multiple credible pharmacists that Lispril / Zestril / Lisinopril is now completely unavailable in Thailand! Except if a random pharmacy has some stock left which is unlikely the pharmacies can't order new stock..

There was a recall initiated by the USA FDA in September due to some metal fragments being found in some of the pills. If the stuff is exclusively USA made, I would think it's still off the shelves worldwide until the manufacturer(s) make and distribute new batches to everywhere.

Details of the recall on Google.

Google also lists alternatives to Lisinopril if you have no choice but to go down that road.

Further reading reveals that Lisinopril (or one of its ingredients) has been classified as a cancer risk. Much of it was pulled because of this, along with the metal fragment issue.

You could go to "Be Well Clinic" and ask one of the doctors for advice

Thank you for all the advice/info. Would doctors at the Premium Clinic and Be Well Clinic speak good English?

All doctors in Thailand should have a good command of English. However, I would guess the doctors at Be Well Clinic would be better.
