Kitten poisoned by frog

Post by berlinmichael »

We recently bought a siamese kitten (Mena) who has quickly become the love of our life ! Today we were in the garden and Mena spots a frog jumping across the grass. She quickly joins the chase and seems to sniff and lick the frog. Seconds later Mena is foaming at the mouth and clearly in some distress. My Thai wife shouts for me to get an egg from the house. I'm in a panic but my wife breaks the egg and pours it into Mena's forced open mouth. There's egg yolk everywhere! After less than 10 minutes Mena is back to normal though covered in egg!
My wife says it's the egg but I'm not convinced it isn"t just some old wives tale. Has any other member heard or maybe used the same remedy? Apparently its common practice in the country for both cats and dogs....

The alternative would be to wait and see if the cat dies.
All those folk remedies have their roots in reality.

Apparently the claim is fake news started by someone on Facebook. Seems to apply to cats as well as dogs.

In any event, happy to hear the little thing pulled through, and apparently the toxin on the frog skin was not that strong. Hopefully she's now become more street smart so to speak.

Thanks for all the responses! Having taken this issue further with my wife she now tells me the egg is used only to make the animal vomit therefore getting the toxin out of the animal! I'm sure my kitten Mena didn't vomit and I guess it's just a lucky escape.
And yes PeteC I'm sure she's learned a lesson. I suspect she wanted to kiss the frog and discover a handsome prince.....

Most of all frogs here have toxin on skin and it is venimous for many animals who try to eat them. Depends only if they jut lick or swallow...quantity of toxin absorbed make the difference.
