At this moment in time...(expressions that P*** us off)

Post by dtaai-maai »

At this moment in time...

I make no apologies for the fact that I'm a bit of a language snob. I like to hear and read good English. I have a lot of pet hates, but this is one of the current leaders.

Have you ever used it yourself? Have you ever heard anyone other than an ex-footballer TV pundit use it? To me, it's simply a way of saying 'at the moment', but trying to make yourself sound intelligent.

Makes me cringe every time I hear it. Which is only when I'm watching football.
This is the way

Dont need to be a snob like you. No, and I agree with you.

Maybe the heading should be changed to expressions that piss you off. My main pet hate is: "we reached out"!
FFS, did you every hear this expression in English classes? When I was young if I "reached out" it was probably to grope some sexy girl!
May you be in heaven half an hour before the devil know`s you`re dead!

Closing a sentence with "end of".
“Never argue with an idiot. They will only bring you down to their level and beat you with experience.”

― George Carlin
“The further a society drifts from the truth, the more it will hate those who speak it.” -George Orwell.

Using 'PERIOD' spoken at the end of a sentence.

That reminds me of Victor Borge and his phonetic punctuation.

Me too, but for a different reason - makes pregnancy sound like a disease! She fell ill...

Too many to recall but I'll start with

Bad boys!

Eg "can't wait to try these bad boys!"

When talking of say golf clubs etc

Grow up!

Oh another one is this social media posting fad of posing a question and then..... "Wrong Answers Only!"

FFS!

OK that isn't a spoken expression but so much of what we communicate nowadays is the written word

Ps I'm so jealous that I didn't start this thread!
