Suan Son Beach

Post by Gregjam »

My beach of choice for many years and still predominantly Thai patrons. I have always enjoyed the absence of hawkers and ease of parking.
I do recall in the past the rare jet ski or banana boat but always away from the main beach area but mainly the lack thereof which is my preference. Lots of food places just back off the beach if you want them too.
Today it is quite windy so the lack of jet ski/banana boat can be expected. I was surprised to see a couple of pony/horse riders touting for business and a foam kite/plane vendor.
It is good to see things picking up again and I have sympathy for those in the tourist related businesses but prefer to see this beach remain a quiet escape from the far more commercially orientated Hua Hin or Cha Am beaches.
Hopefully I am not alone in this feeling.

We used to take the dogs there at about 7 a.m.
Beautiful location, loved it.

Oh, look at them lovely woofers off on a little outing!

*sigh*

I miss having dogs. A lot. Biggest thing I miss about Thailand is being able to afford rent on a place that's suitable for a woofer.

We went a bit off topic there so to get back to Suan Son beach, I've been a regular visitor for about 20 years and it really hasn't changed that much at all.
They put in more car parking quite some years ago but apart from that it's pretty much as it's always been.
It can get a bit busy on a weekend and then you can get the odd beach vendor but I've never seen that many and on a weekday it's as quiet as ever.
They built a nice small beach bar by the golf club a few years back but I'm not sure if it survived the Covid lockdown.

Beach bar and few small food stalls went before Covid, there were also about a dozen caravans that where used most weekends but they went about the same time as the bar.
There is a fee to pay for cars both Farang and Thia's at the check point near the petrol station.

I haven't visited for a couple of years, but the last couple of times we went, the 20฿ fee had been discontinued. Are you saying it has been re-introduced?

No fees last time I was there a few times in October '22.

I paid 20 Baht on last Saturday but perhaps only because I stopped. The guy was surprised but had the ticket roll ready. I could have just driven through and nothing would have happened (I think). Perhaps they are used to cars going to the golf course and not having to pay.

Yes, the 20bt is for parking and it's hit and miss, sometimes you get charged and other times not.

Hit and Miss. Certainly seems the case. It was always 20B entry. However, I went 3 times in Jan with the kids and was waved through each time.

Oh, I'll be returning to that side of the world for sure. 2 years and 10 months to go. :D

Lovely dogs there, Steve.

(sorry, again, mods)

I don’t go there all that often but over about 15 years I’ve been there a dozen or more times and never knew anything about a 20 baht entrance or parking fee. I always just drive slowly as I pass the guard shack, have never seen any indication that they wanted me to stop. Also, I’m not 100% sure but I think there have been times when there was nobody in the guard shack. I went there last week while looking for a lost dog, the guard shack was occupied but I drove slowly, made eye contact with the guard and was not flagged to stop.
