Just HOW are folk going to get to the new rail station?
Re: Just HOW are folk going to get to the new rail station?
I think that is what I've said 2 posts above DB.
To me, they've created such an ugly gash through our beautiful town/city that puts the temple walls. the pier area and the Grand Market into insignificance. The planners here seem hell bent on producing ugly wasteland.

I agree. I can't see any great advantage. It's a station. You catch a train or get off one. The title of this thread highlights the main disadvantage, in my opinion. How do you get to it? The planned road system is a long way off.
Re: Just HOW are folk going to get to the new rail station?
My wonder is why such a big station for such little traffic??
Re: Just HOW are folk going to get to the new rail station?
Exactly, and the latest artist impressions seem to already show a significant downgrade.

Re: Just HOW are folk going to get to the new rail station?
I believe the intention / belief (allegedly) is the new line will create much more traffic, hence the bigger station. It's a Thai thing. Look at the size of Bang Sue, it's huge, not just the building, but the amount of lines coming out of it either side, and then there are all the sidings, that go all the way to chatuchak. If you go to the 'other' chatuchak market, I forgot the real name, that is a fresh food market / food court / garden centre, and park in the 5 story car park, you can look over the vastness of the whole ginormous operation.
Same with Khon Kaen, in the NE, they did a Hua Hin, raised the railway that went through the city and built a station that is bigger than what we see in Hua Hin. For a few trains and few passegers. I was told they initially built it without lifts, but subsequently corrected that.
Talk is cheap

Traffic will increase so much, the latest artist impression shows maybe 15 parking spaces
[Edit] I guess the pavement will accommodate quite a few cars/motorcycles.

There is an awful lot of paving in that pic!
But where's the tunnel entrance?

Here it is, but any potential parking has been taken away by a couple of trees.
Lucky the kerbs are black and white.
I reckon I'd have to push Mrs BB's wheelchair in the road.

Parking is now further down the road, I see. Also the entrance that fronts the tunnel has disappeared in this pic, but was in the first pic. That's from memory, so I could be wrong! These renderings don't seem to worry too much about reality.

Re: Just HOW are folk going to get to the new rail station?
Perhaps they will finally close the chicken restaurant and make a car park there
Re: Just HOW are folk going to get to the new rail station?
It's already the biggest car park in town when the Bangkokians are around

Re: Just HOW are folk going to get to the new rail station?
I noticed (& so did B.B.) that the kerbs are painted with B/W markings to allow parking on the road side...But..If the station side of the Rd is (& possibly will be) lined with songtaews, then on Sundays the opposite side will be lined with the BKK/Chinese minivans/people carriers outside that damned chicken R/rant..THEN a train comes so the (what was) moving traffic all backs up to wait for the crossing to open again..It seems that stretch of road will be snarled up just as it is now..Same-same, but...
Has anyone on here actually been round the back of this folly (sorry work of art) station to see if there is indeed an access road, & drop-off areas there..??

Re: Just HOW are folk going to get to the new rail station?
The crossing will only close for goods vehicles. Passenger trains will 'fly' overhead.
The plan is/was to build an access road at the back with entries on Soi 88 and the other end meeting the road at the other side of the other roundabout.

Re: Just HOW are folk going to get to the new rail station?
Goods vehicles and the special passenger trains that will continue to use the very adequate existing railway station.
I've watched the 'progress' videos, and whilst there is a service road, it is quite small, and as for parking.......................
