Unfair dig if you ask me. To be fair there are construction projects going on, and completed in Thailand that would be the envy of any country in the world. Find another country that would have had the balls or the foresight to build the Mahanaknon in Bangkok! Bangkok has the most unique skyline in the world bar none IMO. I also believe that the Bang Na station was the largest ever construction of its type, 1 billion dollars worth and I think the longest bridge on the planet etc etc. One thing Thais do well is huge construction projects!

I does appear that the new station and dual track is due to open in the next few weeks. Train to/from BKK cut to 3 hours.

https://www.facebook.com/huahintodaynewsStarting December 11, 2023, Hua Hin's train operations will be transferred to the new Hua Hin Station, the State Railway of Thailand announced on Friday (Nov 17).
Additionally, a new timetable will be implemented from December 15, 2023, to accommodate the double-track system.
Earlier this week, the State Railway of Thailand announced the first of the services that will use the new dual track line.
However, it is now understood that from December 15 trains to Hua Hin will now use the elevated new elevated train station.
The use of the dual track train lines mean that trains between Hua Hin and Bangkok will now take approximately three hours, much quicker than is possible currently.
Further details will be available in due course.

What's the problem? It will probably never open in my life time. Unless there are lots of trains every day at popular times then it's not going to get many customers. The whole thing is massive, it's a station built for a major city. The only reason to build it so big is the fact that the bigger it is, the more it will cost and therefore much larger sums of money become available for corruption purposes. Somebody will invent another project for access meaning even more money will be available for corruption. No logically thinking government would never allow a station of this size to be built in a little village like Hua Hin.

Well this agenda is not some prediction from a while ago. It has been announced only yesterday so I'm sure it will happen. Not sure if it will survive in the short term. We'll see.

I'm sort of with Harry Vardon, although I am sure it will open on or around the planned date.
We still haven't had the question about how we will access the new station answered. There seems to be very little provision for parking.
I see in the most recent artists impressions that the dual carriageway running outside has been downgraded to 2 lanes of traffic each way, so maybe street side parking is the cunning plan, leaving one useable lane each way.
At the moment, I can't see the logic of demolishing all of those trackside properties/businesses to build a dual carriageway to nowhere, which now seems to have been scrapped. At least the Bangkokians have retained their chicane i.e. their chicken shop. The larger road should provide double parking with nowhere near the congestion that is normally along that road.
Some may say that it looks good (I've even heard beautiful used), but IMHO a total white elephant.

Well, I am looking forward to using it. At the moment, if not driving and using the bus, after arriving at swampy, I then get the airport link, then a taxi. This will require a further BTS journey after arrival at Bang Sue, followed by a short cab ride.
And then when the tollway along Rama2 is completed, that might be quicker - lol! Id have to do that jourmey as well. just to check it out!

Don't get me wrong, I am looking forward to using it, but at the end of the day a railway station is a railway station is a railway station. The improvement is the dual track, which was greatly needed, and I hope they eventually start new services connecting Bangkok at all times of the day, not Northbound mornings and Southbound evenings.

It would be interesting to hear what members believe the new station will give us over the existing station. Personally, apart from being newer, I can't think of any.

I’m possibly/probably an average sort of person, but couldn’t really care less about the station as long as it has the obvious facilities - I’m sure what 99% of travellers care about is the state of the trains, the frequency/punctuality and overall journey time.
