Yes, but they are quite open with the fact. It is still cheaper than other hospitals.

I'm sure organisations like NHS are charging more for foreigners these days than they are for resident UK citizens, so we can't really blame them.

Not complaining at all. Been having monthly retinal scans recently and have no complaints about the equipment, the staff, or the price.

I hope I'm reading more into this than is really happening.

As you know, I've been turned away from this clinic a few times now because they've had no doctors.

Mrs BB & I are due for our quarterly check-ups on Saturday morning. Mrs BB received a phone call just after 12 today, cancelling our appointments, and saying they won't be able to see us until January. They want us to call in to collect our repeat prescriptions, so I'll find out more then.

For me apart from underlying problems, my everyday health is fine, and seeing the doc is a bit of an inconvenience, but I do as I'm told. Not so for Mrs BB - it's often important for her to see the doc. I've said it before, but I don't think they have enough docs to keep the clinic manned.

If I'm right, I'll need to find another clinic. Be Well often looks tempting, but I'm put off by their close affiliation to Bangkok Hospital, where my family has had a few bad experiences.

Does anybody know of a similar service in the area please? I used to use Petcharat Hospital in Petchaburi, but that's a bit of a drive if you're ill.

I will try to provide an update on the Hua Hin Hospital Clinic tomorrow (if normal service will return in January, that will be fine).

Why not try Be Well Clinic and specify your feelings about BKKH, they do have contact with other hospitals

Mrs BB was at the hospital for an eye appointment this morning, and when finished, we wandered up to the clinic. They had absolutely no idea what we were on about. They said nobody had phoned us, and tomorrow morning's clinic was on as usual.

Well, somebody did phone, because I overheard the conversation, but hey, problem solved, the clinic is open for business as usual. I'm very happy, because IMHO its the best clinic in town. Business as usual is the best result I could have wished for.

I recently attended the Premium clinic. It was my first visit so had to register. I registered the day before I attended the clinic to give me plenty of time. This is the current procedure.

Enter the main building and there are a number of window hatches on the left. Adjacent to them is a table with blank forms. I had to complete the “New patient form”, so take a pen with you. You will also need your current passport. After completing the form present yourself and paperwork at one of the window hatches. I used the first one.

The admin officer took the paperwork, entered data into a computer and then gave the paperwork to the lady next to him. She done more stuff on her computer and then handed the paperwork back to me along with a hospital medical card. I was told to return the following morning at 8.30am to get my tests.

Next day I attended the Premium medical clinic on Floor 5 of the annexe building. I walked to the rear of the main hospital building and at the back door I turned right. Follow the path to the second left turn and enter the “outpatient clinic. Take the lift to the 5th floor and turn left on exiting the lift. You are now at the clinic.

The very pleasant and efficient receptionist took my details and gave me a sheet of paper with test options on it. The top 9 are the normal options, which appear to my untrained eye to be very comprehensive but there are various other options for tests which include liver cancer, prostrate cancer and HIV checks all of which are priced as add ons.

After completing the form and ticking the required boxes I was given a sample bottle for urine and directed to the nearby loo. Sample provided to receptionist and then told to take a seat. After about 10 minutes a nurse took some blood samples. I was then told by receptionist to go to the x ray department for a chest x ray and then go away and get breakfast and to return at 11am for results.

On my return the receptionist took my weight and blood pressure. Make sure you know your height in Centimetres as she doesn’t have a measuring tape. I then waited about 25 minutes to see the doctor as there were several people in front of me. When it was my turn the Doc asked general questions about my health, inputted the details into the computer and then went through the results of the blood and urine tests and the x ray. I am apparently fit and healthy.

As an aside, I had a puffy elbow called a bursitis which I showed the Doctor after she had finished going through the results. She said she would refer me to the orthopaedics department on the 2nd floor of the main hospital. I paid the health check fee to the receptionist and my fee was 2012.50 baht for everything. She then gave me a slip of paper for the orthopaedics department. On my arrival there I gave it to the new receptionist who immediately checked her computer. I was under the impression she was trying to find me an appointment date. Within a minute she told me to take a seat. I walked over to the seating area and as I was about to sit down a staff member ushered me into a consulting room where I was greeted by a young Doctor. I showed him my elbow, he knew immediately what it was and told me he would drain it. He then filled a big syringe with blood and pus and then bandaged my arm. Despatched back to reception who gave me a form to take to window 7 cashier at the main hospital entrance. I handed the form in there and was charged 184 baht for all their hard work in dealing with my elbow.

Overall it was a reasonably easy and a very proficient service. My only dislike was jumping the queue at the x ray department. My moral compass didn’t like that and I felt uncomfortable doing it.

On a different tack, there is a basic price rise at the SMC from 1st January. 350฿ for Thais and 450฿ for Farang. IMHO still very reasonable.

Indeed, 450 baht extra versus sitting in an illness-infested Thai govt hospital ward queuing for the best part of a day is a no-brainer!

Just for what it's worth, I've been with BeWell for nearly a year now haven't personally noticed any particular affiliation between them and Bangkok Hospital. On the two occasions when they said I needed to see a specialist, they said I could go to any hospital I wanted, and they would write the referral letter accordingly. The Doctor I was talking to, actually pointed out that the Hua Hin Hospital would be cheaper than Bangkok Hospital.

Thank you. That is very reassuring. Maybe they though advertising an affiliation with BH was a good marketing ploy in the beginning. It certainly kept me away.

HHH seems to be back on track now, but if they slip again, I will definitely take a closer look at BeWell.

I think (not sure) that the location of this clinic has moved to the 2nd floor (same building).

I was at HHH today for some tests, and was shocked to see the 'original' 2nd floor outpatients clinic (old building) had completely vanished. It was just an large empty room. I was told the old outpatients clinic had taken over the SMC location, which will be a massive improvement.

I'm not due at the SMC (Premium Clinic) until mid-Feb. In the meantime, if somebody can confirm, it would be helpful.

If correct, this is another massive improvement to our local public hospital.

Where you can go here(HHH) if sick during the middle of the night?

Do they have an emergency room like Bkk HH hospital or San Paulo?

Thanks
