There are around 6 million legally registered guns in Thailand plus another 4 million illicit guns. That does make Thailand the highest in ASEAN.
Foreigners can own guns legally in some cases.

Anyway HHTEL what are you doing to protect your family in this case? Sounds like absolutely nothing.

What would you suggest he does? Other than the action already taken and held in reserve'?

:? Make that number 30 million legally registered and 40 million illicit and I agree. Only in my nearest Thai family its 6 guns. Never see violence from or against the family in the plus 20 years I know them but simply for protection.

I'm curious where you got those figures from HaHuahin.
Those figures would put Thailand on a par with the US. They have 120 guns per 100 and your figures make Thailand almost the same.
The figure given out by the World Population Review is 15.1 guns per 100 people.

And yes a foreigner can apply for a permit but the first obstacle is getting permanent residence. Limited to 100 per year.
The requirements for permanent residency is out of reach of most expats I would think.

I think questioning someone's ability to defend/look after their own family without resorting to (illegal) firearms is taking things a little far Bubba1.

Gun ownership in Thailand being the highest in the ASEAN doesn't surprise me, but must admit levels of 15 per 100 people is higher than I imagined....

Judging by the number of guns that are fired at midnight on New Years Eve, it doesn’t surprise me at all.

Is there any evidence thai men are any more 'jealous' than any other nationalities?

Thai gun ownership is way higher than the 'official' figures and the biggest black market for used firearms is the police. It is virtually impossible for a foreigner to own one legally but there are always other routes ... not that I'm suggesting that. It seems an extreme solution to a simple problem, and imagine if you actually used it - as a foreigner in Thailand your life would be over, and they'd throw the book at you regardless of the circumstances.

All these gun comments detract from the original issue which the OP seems to be addressing carefully. I tend to agree that finding a friendly policeman to have a word may help initially. Should he not receive the message clearly then with this being Thailand it would not be that difficult or expensive to arrange for him to find out what being on the receiving end of what he has been doing feels like.

Good point, I think it's a human nature issue/fault rather than a nationality trait

Agreed. I wonder if some Thai Language boards for Thai people in the UK say Brits like to drink 12 pints of Stella and beat their wives.

Racist in my opinion
