Yup, for the simple reason the BP article has nothing to do with the potential need for expats acquiring a TIM number. It would probably have been better if the link hadn't been posted.

The other requirements in Motyduke's post will happen. We know how to get a Yellow Book.Pink Card, so not a problem. If we need a TIM number, a procedure will become apparent soon. I see no reason to get excited.

Tax ID Number, TIN, not TIM, have been available to Expats for years. Issued from the tax office on Soi 88 opposite Nanys.
Ask for a form which is in Thai so take it away to have a Thai translate. Google the requirements but I think it's just the usual passport and visa copies plus proof of address from immigration.

Me too just about but I believe expats use it to reclaim with holding tax and tax on interest on some investments.

Also at least one financial investment in the UK has asked me for my TIN or they may withhold the payment due to me, it hasn't happened yet though.

I am just relaying the information that it is available for those who require it.

I know that obtaining a TIM number is not very difficult.

But if I shared this information it is because it shows what is being put in place with the new tax regulations. It will be the banks which will trace money receipts (international transfers) and transmit them to the government, mentioning our TIM number. Maybe even by automatically collecting taxes.

It will remain up to everyone to prove to the Thai tax authorities that these amounts are not taxable.

I am grateful for the information because this is the first time since it was announced that the Income Tax puzzle is starting to make sense. The whole Immigration thing was a non-starter as far as I was concerned.

If we need TINs, I'm sure we'll soon learn how to do it. Those who don't have Yellow Books/pink ID Cards will find it a bit of a nause, but the process is not difficult.

I've seen nothing to be concerned about yet - if you are legitimate.

Those without a Yellow Book and/or Pink ID card have a Gov assigned TIN if they've had Covid vaccine here. It's on your Thai Chana vaccine app with your personal details, and on your vaccine certificate(s). It's a valid ID number and points only to you in the Thai Gov system.

In fact, I now have 2. 1 with my Yellow Book, and 1 they automatically assigned with the vaccine as they didn't ask me for a Yellow Book/Thai Pink ID.

Yes. On your vaccine certificate it's labeled as "ID Card Number", and is right beneath your name and gender on the top left side of the certificate.

I am in Bkk until tomorrow and haven't got that with me. But I did the check the app - which tells me I need to verify my ID to get access to the certificate - but under personal ID and then citizen ID number / User ID, it does use the 13 digit number.

But as Pagey reminds us, the tax number is meant to have only 10 digits. Let's see what comes out in the wash.

The logic would be to use the 'covid' number and perhaps there is a facility to use this number in the tax system. It's daft having too many identifers. For example, in the UK, we all have an NI number which is used as a general collection point for all data hekd against your name and number, that is with you even beyond your demise.
