New deposit rules for banks

Post by Motyduke »

as i read in bangkok post, atm in thailand will ask id number (blue or pink for foreigners) to deposit money (not to retrieve). and bank inform me that they are instructed to request TIN number (fiscal thai number) for all foreigners : in some months they can close bank account if the foreigner don't have this number.

One way or another, they look as though they want to get rid of foreigners - income tax, medical insurance for O-A visa holders and now this!!

and for the new request of TIN number for each bank account of foreigner it is rule coming from th international Common Reporting Standard (CRS) adopted by Thailand. It will go with th new job for banks about “money coming from abroad” and their taxation : each bank should declare to thai government the amount of money received by each foreigner, attached to TIN number.

This article doesn’t mention anything about foreigners having to provide any ID or TIN number - that could obviously happen but let’s hope not!!

Yes I saw that, I was just mentioning that the article was silent on it, so hopefully it’s something that won’t be enforced 🤞

Yes, that articles says it's required for making cash deposits at ATMs which is not something that I ever do.

Reading the Motyduke post, I think this helps us understand how they will be tracking funds into Thailand, and attributing them to specific users as part of the Income Tax initiative.

Well, if it happens, I look forward to a system being created to supply me with a TIN number.

As has been said and the way I read it this applies only to cash deposits. Of course these deposits do not have a paper trail.
How many of us/you deposit cash? I certainly don't.
