Microwaving burgers at home

Post by 404cameljockey »

I've had the idea of doing this, and finishing them with a handheld creme brulee burner I found in a cupboard, which my wife bought and hid long ago.

It should be good? Will you get the seared flavour of grilling, with juicy burger meat inside?

I'm asking for any prior knowledge, because I don't want to ruin two perfectly good wagyu burgers (yes I'm daft for buying them, possibly shopping hungry after an afternoon beer; the only good use for true wagyu is a grade 4 or 5 steak lightly grilled, in my book).

But OK, if no-one knows, I'll be our guinea pig and report back. I'm going to buy some butane and knock up some creme brulees anyway. :neener:

Sorry I’ve never tried that way of cooking - unless you get anything more specific I’d ere on “undercooking” it in the microwave otherwise it could be very dry, and finish it off with the blowtorch to your desired colour!!

PS. I do love a good crème brûlée!!

Personally, I wouldn't cook meat in the "Ding Machine" - warming up fine, but cooking just dries the meat out/makes it tough IMHO.

I've tried the "Blowtorch" :D previously to get the chargrill effect and had decent results TBH.

Let us know how you get on :thumb:

Why not just fry them in a pan.
I wouldnt recommend microwaving them.
Heat pan to high, oil the burgers first, place in the pan and you will get a good sear. Turn over searing the other side and then Turn down the heat and cook through.

I'm thinking about losing some fat from the burgers and not adding oil to them. Plus the correct way to fry (steak, burgers, etc.) Is to fry slowly so the inside is cooked, and then sear on high heat afterwards! :)

I may try the microwave with some cheaper burgers another time. It doesn't need high/long heat, so I don't think they should dry out.

It's the way I've tried previously (very lightly oiling before pan frying), with the "sear" or "chargrill" coming from the burner/torch. Worked pretty well I thought.
