I was just taking a look at of interest and being Samsung was very surprised at the prices - must admit, I shall have to investigate further....Big Boy wrote: ↑Tue Apr 02, 2024 1:14 pm Thanks guys. I'm currently looking at Samsung Galaxy Tab A9+ 5G 8/128GB (top end) and Samsung Galaxy S12+ Tablet {12GB RAM + 512GB ROM} Smart Tablet (lower end). Both seem to easily meet my very modest needs, plus an awful lot more. Would any 'expert' like to comment? I am a virtual novice on Android devices.
I only really use Samsung. You guys can see the specs I am considering - is there anything else of similar specs that you guys could recommend please?

Re: Looking For New Tablet
I just had a look an A9+ in an electronic shop in Europe and it looked pretty decent for the money. The higher spec. Samsung tablets had much more vibrant screens but they were at least three times the price.Big Boy wrote: ↑Tue Apr 02, 2024 1:14 pm Thanks guys. The shop only had Samsung and Apple so I didn't see anything else comparable.
Re: Looking For New Tablet
Thank you Steve. I almost ordered the A9+ earlier, but thought I'd wait to see if there were any other suggestions.

I have an IPad 9th generation, Model number MK2K3FD/A which is sitting around gathering dust.
I bought it for a job that required an apple device, but have hardly used it (I'm not an apple fan).
It cost me 300 quid......would let it go for 200 quid.

Thank you for your kind offer Suua, but I am definitely not a fan of Apple either. I think Apple are a like it or hate it company, and I sit on the hate it side of the fence. Having said that, I am not doubting the quality of Apple products.
So, I'm sorry, but I have to say no. Your offer sounds very reasonable though, and I'm sure somebody will take it.

I'm just back from MV, so I popped into the Samsung shop for a look. I had been thinking upgrading to 11", but wow!, how big is that? The smaller size will do me fine. It looks a nice piece of kit, but don't they all?

Re: Looking For New Tablet
One quick question for any tableteers, I see the Samsung tablet does not come with a charger. Is this common amongst all manufacturers these days please?

Re: Looking For New Tablet
Most new mobiles come with just the charging cable itself these days, I would imagine that a tablet would probably be the same.
It's all good
Re: Looking For New Tablet
Not all brands. Xiaomi/Redmi, for example, include chargers. I think Samsung hasn't supplied chargers for some time now. I bought a Samsung tablet nearly 2 years ago and it came with a cable but no charger.Ms Tigger wrote:Most new mobiles come with just the charging cable itself these days, I would imagine that a tablet would probably be the same.

OK guys, I've gone for my upper range Samsung, minus the 5G capability. I'm happy it will more than meet my modest requirements. I did go for the 11" in the end as the higher spec 8.7" model did not seem to be available, and there was quite a difference in power.
Thank you to all who contributed. I'm especially grateful for being made aware of the "C-Port" issue.

Re: Looking For New Tablet
I'm still having a look through things - whilst my current Tablet is only a couple of years old, it's not what I really want (all down to my lack of research unfortunately). The Samsung really looks good, but there seems to be so many variations (especially in the UK) - though I'm also looking at the 11" minus 5G. What connections did you end up with in the end (some models appear to still have USB 2.0 or 3.0 rather than USB-C)?Big Boy wrote: ↑Wed Apr 03, 2024 7:05 pm OK guys, I've gone for my upper range Samsung, minus the 5G capability. As an aside, a little more investigation showed, I can see where I've buggered up (perhaps) on a couple of occasions. There is a limit as to what the Lenovo (and others) can recognise with regards to external memory - 256 GB Mini SIM and 1TB USB for example, BUT various comments Online put this limit at far lower and recommend certain "Formatting"... I'm in the process of checking things out with far lower storage devices to see what happens.

Re: Looking For New Tablet
It has failed to arrive so far. Tracking says it arrived in Hua Hin at 7:09am this morning.
The spec stated USB connection and expandable to 1TB (micro SD). However, I'll tell you the reality when it finally arrives (and is maybe on its way back ).

Re: Looking For New Tablet
I have a Surface Pro 5 that has been good over several years.
One exception, I have had 2 cover keyboards go dead on me.
Surprising, as I take great care of my devices.
Now, I quite like using it without the keyboard.
I bought a cheap, normal size Bluetooth keyboard for use when needed, and much smaller, lightweight keyboard for travel.
One week ago, my battery capacity dropped from 55% to 20%.
I urgently searched for somewhere to change the Surface Pro battery.
The battery was changed yesterday in Terminal 21 (Rama 3) for 4,500 Baht.
All looks good.
This small emergency made me thing about getting an Android tab, as backup.
After searching online, I decided that Lenovo M9 was a good choice – 9 inch, 4 GB/64 GB, Android 12/13, LTE, priced at 5,490 Baht, with a free folio case on Shopee.
This brings me to my question – I have read that Word and Excel are free to use on tabs smaller than 10.1 inches.
That’s one reason why I’m thinking about getting a smaller tab, no need to get involved in “Windows 365”, etc.
I don’t like the sound of WPS, whatever that is.
I understand the MS product is a reduced version of the original, but do you just down load the Word ‘app’ and Excel ‘app’ from MS, or from Google?
I don’t want to continuously access my documents from the Cloud, if that is part of the deal?
Any enlightenment appreciated…

Just in case you are (or anyone else is):
USB 2.x and 3.x refer to data interchange protocols and speeds. USB C is a connection/interface specification. USB C does not indicate whether its device uses USB 2 or 3 for data transfer and some devices use USB C ports for power supply only.
In tablets and phones a USB C socket may be used for charging only, but usually also for OTG (on the go - to attach eg a thumb drive, camera or other peripheral) and for connection to a PC where the phone/tablet is the peripheral. These connections are not necessarily USB 3.x.
Some phones/tablets may also use the USB connection for other purposes such as for HDMI input or output (eg use tablet as PC monitor, connect phone/tablet to TV).
The presence of a USB C port doesn't indicate the presence of any particular functionality. You need to check the device specifications.
