Volunteers needed for HHDRC shop

Post by DawnHRD »

I'm sure I posted this somewhere before & just wanted to "bump" the thread, but I can't find it.

Many of the volunteers who worked in the HHDRC charity shop are leaving for various reasons & we need people who are willing to cover a shift (or two) a week. It's really easy, just manning the shop, taking money from any customers and possibly tidying any stock that needs it. The rest of the time you can spend reading, on your laptop/notebook, knitting or whatever  .

Shifts are 11am - 2pm or 2pm - 6pm.

We need staff for: Monday afternoons, all of Tuesday, Wednesday afternoons, all of Thursday, Friday afternoons, all of Saturday & Sunday mornings. Please, please, please consider helping out. The shop is an important source of money & point of contact for HHDRC & a lot of people in HH would miss it if we had to close.

PM me or post below if interested. Thanks

Hi Dawn,

Would really love to help you out on the shop front, but job commitments and my location just don't fit in.

Question: Does it really need to be open 7 days a week?

Suggestion: Why not have the shop just open three or four days a week? Saves on the bodies you need to man the place. As long as you have a sign with opening times, and everybody knows, then you won't lose out on customers or donaters. I've often trudged up those stairs, got to the top, with my bag of goodies to donate and found the shop closed. I won't leave the bag outside the door when I have twenty beady eyes just waiting for me to do that...

It's obviously a big problem for you to find people willing to donate their free time to keep the place running, and you have a million other things to do, but maybe shorter opening hours would be the answer. You'll still hopefully get the same revenue, without the hassle of lack of volunteers.

No, we don't need it open 7 days a week and (as you know) it never has been  . But I don't know which days people might be available. So, my idea was to list all the available shifts, see which (if any) can be filled and go from there. I'd like to get the half days filled first, ideally, because to be open 4 full days a week (guaranteed) would be great. But if not, I'll go for 6 or 7 half days, if I can get that. :D
