Review

Post by Kraka's Dad »

Just back home after 4 weeks in Hua Hin.
Had a great time and I thought I would review the places we ate.

1. Kaimuck at Satukarn Square.

As always food excellent and the service very good. Would not hesitate to recommend to anyone for good food quite cheap and a good range og Thai food. Cannot comment on the Western food as we always eat Thai there.

2. Pasta Factory.

Food and service wise could not fault them unlike other posters on this forum. I even ordered gnocchi with carbonara sauce which was not on the menu and there was no problem.
Both Hannes and Nut were their charming selves and the service was good even when busy.
Ate there 4 or 5 times.
The road noise was still there but that cannot be changed.

3. Chomkluen fishing pier.

Every time the food was excellent.Wonderful seafood dishes prepared quickly. If anything the service was better as we always got our food in the correct order which has not always been the case in the past.

4. Pizza Corner.

Lovely crispy bases and tasty toppings.A good place to people watch too.

5. Hua Hin Terrace top of Night Market
Certainly a find! Had not been there before but the food was great. Scallops were wonderful as was the grilled fish with Hawaiian sauce.
If you ate there late they did run out of things like mussels but at least you know the food is fresh and has not been lying around for days.
Singha only 70 baht a large bottle !

5. Coco51.
Ate there once and we had to eat inside as they had a large party of golfers from the Dusit coming.
Even so the service was good.
Food was good but no better than any of the above and it was more expensive. Not sure if we would eat there again. Only because we are happy with the places we go to that offer equal or better quality food and service at lower prices.

There are a couple of other restaurants we ate in up the Night Market just before the Terrace which were very good too but their names escape me.

I'm sure many people with agree and disagree with my review but you can only speak as you find.

I just want to know where my doggy bag is. Suppose I'll have to make do with some twigs again tonight :thumb:

Jimmy, maybe Kraka's dad hasn't had a bad meal? there is no need to slate things for the sake of it. I can honestly say we have only ever had 2 iffy meals in HH (both expensive) and it was probably our fault for eating late, around 9pm. I am not easy to please and rarely eat out in the UK as I find it overpriced and often a lesser standard than I can make.

Have been going to Hua Hin twice a year for the last 4 1/2 years and my partner she has been coming there for the last 10 years 7 weeks total each year and eat out almost every night so we know where we like to eat, and I was giving an honest opinion of the places we like to eat and what they were like on this visit. We have had poor meals in the past but guess what? We don't eat there any more.

Kraka’s Dad, I agree with you-I don’t go to bad restaurants either, they’re a waste of money.

The standard of food in general (from my own experience) in Hua Hin is very very high. It seems to me that Thais know food, and do a far better job of making it than we do. Frankly some of the food I had when I was there was better than sex. In fact, the food is probably my main reason for moving!

I'd like to recommend 'Pandintong' restaurant to anyone visiting. Most of the expats who live here frequent the place a lot. It's run by a farang, Dave, and both the Thai food and Western food is excellent which allows you to bring groups with mixed tastes. The prices are unbelievably cheap and it'll cost you 50 baht for a large Chang.

It's located on the right going south on Petchkasem just before the fly-over.

You may see me there. I eat there regularly.

Supertonic, I was in the Pandintong tonight just to do research for you.

A Penang Curry is 70 baht.

Don't thank me, just pay my next bin there.

As far as Thai food goes, if you've a Thai partner they know the good from the bad and the ugly

Farang food is generally good although often served at Thai temperatures (luke warm)

Also chefs come and go so one week all is well. The next week all is Cr*p. It can also be attributed to the time of day

I think we all have our favourites whether in HH, BK or wherever. At the end of the day with the amount of competition around, Thai cooking is excellent. If not they don't survive!!!
