"BRITAIN'S GOT TALENT!!"

Post by bradders »

Hi Forum

Being a newbie here I'm not sure if this posting 'fits' into The Beach Bar' catergoty - I hope it's not totally "in the wrong room" ??!

Other than introducing myself in the Introductions forum this is my first attempt to put together a posting - which I hope you guys will enjoy as much as I did!

A friend sent me a video clip taken from a recent UK based show - in Dubai we get a number of UK television programmes but not this one. (It's possible the show is amongst whatever UK TV channels you receive in HH?)

I'm sure we all appreciate those lucky enough to be blessed talent and their desire to seek recognition!

There are of course 100's of talent shows worldwide and once in a while someone Special comes along - I think you'll agree this is one of them!! (if not two of them!)

This was the guys first appearance on the show - a stunning performance!
http://www.youtube.com:80/watch?v=1k08yxu57NA

This was his semi final performance - equally inspiring!!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O-Pv-0vpxSc&NR=1

This was his appearance in the Final
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WsMssnHF ... ed&search=

This was the result of the 'telephone-in' Voting (One hour after the Final)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4OvFbMSNw2c&NR=1

***************************************************

Also - PLEASE find the time to watch this incredible 6 year old TALENT!

A good chance she (Connie) would have won had she not come up against Paul Potts??!! A pretty face - a lovely voice with NO music to back her up - she didn't need it!!!! (You may need a tissue handy for this one - as well!)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QWNoiVrJ ... ed&search=

Videos of all the above performances can be found on the YouTube website but I think these are the best of the many versions posted there.

Take a break - and ENJOY!!!!!

If you visit here within the next 3 months or so, you can enjoy "Thai Fantasia", a take off on American idol. It was on last night or Friday night and all the dogs were howling in the neighborhood from what was coming out of the TV. There must be better talent than this in Thailand. I think we're watching rich kids whose parents paid to get them on. Pete

bradders,
Couple of things. As this isn't Thai related, but may nevertheless get some laughs out of us, I've moved it to Foo. We all go off track sometimes and "go on" about things not Thai. Hope you don't mind the move and thanks for asking about the placement of your post.
Another thing - Youtube is blocked in Thailand, so we can't see any of your links. Normally, a link appears in red letters. Your's have come out black. Maybe you didn't link properly, or the colour is because there are no links to the site here any more? I'm not sure about that.

Trusting Lomuamart you and others will accept my apologies for the various errors I made!

No escuse but I'm a newbie here and didn't realise all postings had to be 'Thai Related'. I thought as the Forum is made up of mainly Expats from various countries - and a number of members still living in places other than HH or Thailand - there may have been certain topics of interest and value not directly related to Thailand that were considered 'acceptable' - or indeed welcomed.

We too (in Dubai) have many blocked websites - no prizes for guessing which sites are banned! - anything related to sex or 'relationships' such as chat-rooms or websites offering "dating & introductions" (such as "Meet Thai Girls for Dating" etc etc) are a 'no-go'!!

I'm sure the powers that be in Dubai have 'checked-out' the HHAD Forum but because the way you control and supervise the content within the site they have not blocked you - thankfully!

I'm surprised YouTube is blocked in Thailand - I can't ever recall seeing anything offensive there...... maybe there are 'links' or 'postings' I haven't come across (?)

Once again my apologies for the mistakes - be assured they were not intentional - simply trying to introduce the members to two very special and talented people - just two lovely folk who's singing ability is exeptional! - it's a great pity you do not have the 'freedom of choice' to see them!! :(

I must try to think of something 'Thai Realted' before posting again......

No need to apologise mate, post what you like, I think lomu was trying to say anything unrelated will get moved to Foo.

There is an article here which explains internet censorship in Thailand:

bradders,
your youtube links are in black here in Aus. too.
Normally they are in red.
You are not restricted to posts about Thailand. It was just in the wrong section.

Thanks Buksida for the website - I now know why YOU-TUBE is a blocked website. For those who may be interested, the following is an extract taken from the website:

The case that made international news was the blocking of Google's video-sharing website YouTube in April for violation of the kingdom's strict lese majeste laws and publishing video clips deemed offensive to the revered monarchy.

Last week Reuters reported that YouTube had agreed to remove four clips that Thailand says insulted their king. Communications Minister Sitthichai Pookaiyaudom received a letter from Google's senior lawyer, Kent Walker, stating that Thailand had sent YouTube management a list of 12 video clips it deemed offensive; six of those had already been removed by their creators. The Thai politician, who had already threatened to sue Google, said he no longer wished to take legal action but not comment on unblocking the website in Thailand
.

End quote.

I have no idea what the YouTube video clips contained that offended the Monarchy - according to the Report they have been removed BUT will YouTube now be reinstated to the Thai nation? We will see....

Having read the website Buksida we can see how many countries are frustrated by blocked websites - I can understand restrictions that are justified and protect people from uneccessary information which may genuinely damage, disrupt or influence a Countries 'well-being' - but where does the censor draw the line and not be seen as democratic and infringing on peoples 'right to choose'?

Appreciate this subject could be debated forever and forever - for the past 20 years residing in the Middle East I have almost become conditioned to the "When in Rome" syndrome!!

I hope to move to Thailand soon - will be checking out HH on my next trip to see If I could be happy living out my days there - if so - it appears my freedom of choice will once again be decided for me!!

But like it or not - accept it or not - it's my choice where I decide to live and if 'When in Rome' presides I will just have to accept it - what else can I (or others) do??

Thanks again Buksida - another day - and more knowledge gained....

Thanks Ozuncle for the info - I've no idea why my 'links' are in black font!

As I assume you may access the YouTube website (unlike Thailand) you may wish to visit the site and find the recommended video's by copying & pasting the links I provided.

I think you'll enjoy them.... please let me know if you do!!

Thanks also for confirming non Thai related posts may be made on the forum providing of course they are posted in an approriate 'room'

bradders,
I did try to look at the first link but it advised that the video was not available.
The banning of youtube in Thailand was discussed at length here if you want to look.

http://www.huahinafterdark.com/forum/yo ... ht=youtube

Opinions were varied as to whether the video should have been withdrawn by youtube when requested.

ozuncle,

Many thanks for the 'link' ref youtube being closed to Thailand.

I've read the postings and now fully understand why youtube was banned.

This took place before I became a HHAD member, had I known I could have saved myself the time to produce the posting I made - and indeed the time it's taken for your goodself and others to inform me youtube is currently Off The Radar!

Aplologies to all for any inconvenience ....
bradders

PS IF ozuncle you wish to see these two performers there are many similar videos of these two people available on the youtube site - I just relayed the videos considered the best of the bunch!

Just look for any videos titled (Britains Got Talent) Paul Potts and/or Connie. Paul Potts won the show and was due to sign a recording studio contract - so a reasonable chance he will not be a stranger for long - wherever one lives!!

THANKS BB!! What a relief someone got through - AND - enjoyed!!!

I'm SO pleased BB you agree these are a couple of special people - so talented in their own ways - and above all they brought you some enjoyment - if only temporarily - in a relatively troubled world!!

It was worthwhile after all ....... Yeh! :thumb: !

Seems to me that to win one of these talent thingys, you have to be either a 30+ stone sweating trouser splitter, a cute tiny kid with a gammy leg and a dodgy eye or someone who stutters a lot and dribbles...
