20 Pound Note

Post by Big Boy »

I will be travelling to Thailand next week, and will be bringing some British Currency with me. My wife has heard a rumour that the Currency Exchanges will no longer accept the old version of the 20 Pound note. Can anybody please substantiate this, or is it (as I suspect) Thai scaremongering?

I also changed old 20's 2 weeks ago. The bank/money changers will not accept old 20's if they are damaged/torn or very very/dirty notes. The same applies to 50's. By the way you will get a few satang better rate with 50's from the Chinese Money changers.

When I had a weekend in the UK back in April, I had these new 20s from the ATM and I ended up in the pub confused like a tourist because they got mixed up in my wallet, with Euros and Baht, and I couldn’t work out where my pounds had gone.

Thanks for the offer, but I think I'll stick to the Bangkok Bank rate - wouldn't want to rob you
