Ferry from Hua Hin to Pattaya
Ferry from Hua Hin to Pattaya
Last year there were heavy rumors that there would be a fast ferry between Hua Hin and Pattaya. Has anyone heard any more on this ?
Here's the previous thread we had going on this issue. I believe the latest is that the owner or owners have simply disappeared. I think the plan is dead in the water so to speak. Pete

It's Sunday afternoon/evening. Have you figured in heavy traffic heading back to BKK after the weekend in those 6 hrs? I think not.

Rumours about such service being established 'soon' go back at least 15 years that I know off. Little chance I reckon: a direct line between the King's Resort and the City of Evil. Imagine typical Pattaya holidaymakers coming over in bulk to check out Soi Bintabat for a few days (nights)!
We are all living in 'the good old days' of the future.
I believe several years ago (I've been here seven) there was a ferry from Cha-am. BUT it went bust!
Often thought of some of the advantages. Between here and Pattaya you venture into international waters so would require a customs check on arrival in Pattaya. The other benefit to the entrepeneur would be to open a floating casino once past the international limit. I'm sure neither end would allow you to dock in this scenario so would require a boat change at either end. The ship would turn into a sort of 'Radio Caroline'.

One reassuring fact is that each of the 20 or so plans I have heard of in the last eight years have gradually become more and more realistic.
The last one which I think most of you are referring to just collapsed at the last minute. Rumor has it that the backers pulled out because of the ever rising cost of fuel and the quadrupling of the docking fees in Pattaya.
Whoever does it is taking a bit of a gamble. If you run a service it must run even if you only have one passenger. Once the novelty wears off and people go back to minibus, skytrain and government bus at 340 BHT per person, the operator still has to run the service.
Personally I would rather pay 1000 BHT for the sea crossing even if it may take an hour or so longer.
Another problem you have is the weather. BarryS will know more than I do, but I understand that at certain times of year these Island hopper ferries can not cross the gulf. You then have an expensive boat laying idle for months on end.
I am sure though that if a service does get off the ground you will all get to hear about it. It would be a bit pointless keeping it a secret.
Don't hold your breath waiting though.
