Hi there hulltoon

Well That's the Game of Football!

Me also wished them Scots go through but unfortunately one decision by the ref can decide da whole Game!!!

Good spirit liftin 4 them Players ot the "Pasta Nation". Would be interesting to see if Italy meet Germany again in Euro 08 though!!!!

I hope they do get Germany and the Germans give them six, they got a penalty in the world cup that knocked the Aussies out ,that was never a penalty.

Although I completely agree with you Big Boy, I wouldn't be at all surprised if England play with a great deal of passion this week against Croatia as a reaction to all the negative press that the team and manager have (justly) received. I actually think the absence of Owen may help us because he clearly isn't the player he was or have the devastating pace he used to have. Quite why McLaren played the team he did against Austria is a bit baffling but i guess he felt the need for his intended starting XI for the Croatia match to get some game time together.

I didn't see the Scotland game but it turned out pretty much as I expected (and voted in the poll) - they have done remarkably well, and had they progressed would have also acquitted themselves well in the tournament. It would be nice if just one time all the home nations could qualify for the Euros or World Cup (or at least 3 of them!) as competitive games between them don't come around very often nowadays - bring back the home internationals!

Lets not forget, N. Ireland are still in with a chance, just need to beat Spain in Spain - and they've done that before!

robbed

Post by redzonerocker »

i wouldn't agree that scotland were robbed. maybe they deserved a draw from the game.
as for the bad decision from the ref, what about the errors from the linesman in scotlands favour?
in any game you will get these talking points & its usually the officials that get the flak!!
the last minute goal was down to poor defending, full stop.
as i have said in one of the other threads, the scots performed admirably during their qualifiying campaign apart from one poor performance, the 2-0 defeat in georgia. 3pts from that game may well have made the difference.

Let's hope it's not an Italian ref.

Unfortunately N Ireland also need Latvia to beat Sweden in Sweden on Wednesday. Good luck to N Ireland but it's going to be tough.

Scotland were very unfortunate not to get at least a draw. The controversial foul at the end came about when the Scottish defender (Hutton) put the ball out of play as he was flattened by the Italian. The assistant referee not wanting to interfere in the running of the game raised his flag to indicate a throw in to Italy. The referee, who was becoming very tired after a hard game, and was already thinking about what to spend his Italian back hander on, knew a foul had been committed. He saw the linesman's flag pointing in favour of an Italian throw in, however he very wrongly awarded a free kick to Italy :cuss:

That's exactly why 'Swing Low Sweet Chariot' was formally adopted by the rugby side and look what they achieved!

I'll have to look at this "foul" again if I get the chance. My initial reaction was, what a dumb challenge from the Scot defender! But I'm sure a few million Scots can't be wrong! :thumb:

It was a foul by the Italian and should have been a Scotland free kick, however, Scotland equaliser was offside so justice prevailed.
