Microsoft Word

Post by DawnHRD »

My mum's computer (replacement for one that got stolen) is fine, but it doesn't have Word on it. It has something called Microsoft Works Word Processor. It's as easy to use as Word, but has a big drawback - it seems no-one can open the docs I email. Seeing as I only use it to make up docs for the center, most of which get passed on to someone else, that's pretty useless.

I went to buy a Word package today (cannot, can only buy Office :( ) and it was between 10,600 and 12,900 bt!

I only want to be able to write docs that others can read!

Is there any easier & cheaper(!) way to get Word? I tried downloading it, but need to pay for that, too. I don't know how much, as I don't have a credit card, so can't buy off the internet anyway.

Help, please?

Dawn, you could always buy a copy of ms office from the night market. It will cost you about 200 baht. All the stuff on my computer is copied and must have saved me a fortune.... For example, photo-shop cs, UK 650 pounds (ish), night market 180 baht...

10,600 bt or 200 bt and Bill Gates doesn’t get any richer; what a dilemma!
Also I think there might be some freeware word processors available on the net that will save in word format, but I might be wrong on that.

I would highly recommend to use the Open Office, which is completely free and have the same programs and functionality.

It's not as heavy as M$ Office on your system and is able to open, edit, create and save all the files from earlier versions of M$ Office as well.

Here is the official site: http://www.openoffice.org/

Dawn,

Excellent advice from webmaster - I don't use it personally, but I know several that do. Everybody that I know who is using it has nothing but praise for it. :thumb:

Thanks for that, all.

Downloaded your suggestion yesterday, Webmaster (8 hours it took! I hate dial-up!! ). It still doesn't seem to have Word, but something called Office Writer. That's fine by me, as long as docs written on it can be widely opened by others. Can they?
