Which Thai embassy/consulate has best customer service?

Post by huahindolly »

Has anybody had experience with thai embassies/consulates in Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, or Hong Kong? Which offers the best "customer service?"

I cant comment about HK or Singapore, but KL was a walk in the park. No problem getting a 90 d T-visa.

Hong Kong are OK as long as you have the requisite paperwork. Got a 3 month there a year ago, no probs. In fact, the lovely girl even tried to get me a year's visa (multi entry), but was told 'no-go' by her superior because they only give (or certainly then) single entries. But she tried - off her own back, as well. I certainly didn't ask. :)
Drop your paperwork off one day (I think before 12 midday, can't remember) & get your visa the next. Easy. And very central & easy to find - right above an MTR station.

It may not apply to you, HHD, but Singapore have been reasonable of late if you're married to a Thai. They ask for proof of 400k Baht in any bank account, anywhere and will then issue a multi-entry Non O (you also need marriage certificate, copy of spouse's ID card and tabien bahn).
There are reports now that they're not quite as liberal with these visas as they were a month ago, but I havn't experienced it myself.
As a rule of thumb, I reckon you can say the neighbouring countries will be reluctant to give multi Os now. There are always exceptions to this though.
Vientienne have been good with double-entry Tourist visas lately, but there's no guarantee of how long it will last. Other missions will generally only issue single entry TVs.

Hong Kong wins!

Thanks for the feedback, all. It looks like Hong Kong is the place to go, plus I found a cheap return airfare there. I'll review my experience there if I end up taking the trip.

Vientiane in Laos for me, very quiet and no problems. Interesting place to stay for a few days.
