Isaan Girls (Buksi's topic suggestion from the news)

Post by Spitfire »

All comments welcome,

Did you marry or have a relationship with an Isaan girl?
What do you think?

Are they hard working, loving etc or completely lazy?

Are the girls from Bangkok snooty, ski-jump nose types or the perfect girl?

Let us know, a free for all.

Did you marry or have a relationship with a girl from North Thailand or South Thailand?

Say what you think!

If you want to check my original motivation for posting this, then check the news section, coup thread.

Credit goes to Buksida for suggesting this thread.

Let's find out what everyone thinks.

Say what you like and let's clear it up.

Well about BKK Girls, In December my GF wasnt to well so I decided to go for a Bike ride because I cant sit at home all day, went down a small Soi and ended up on the Beach, near Khao Takiab but on the Hua Hin side, Stunning Thai Girl there in a Bikini with another Girl and a Chinese looking Thai lad so I thought I'd have a sit down, have a smoke and admire the view for 10 minutes.

10-15 later she shouted me over, and offered me a beer, she spoke great English, she worked for some International Company in BKK.

4 Beers later she was asking where my friends are, "No I come to Thailand alone, I have a Girlfriend back at my House"

After asking where she is from, Buriram, the Lad and other Girl are having a bit of a Giggle about it.

"Buriram, Arai Pen Rai?" I asked.

They went very Quiet, thought I couldnt understand a word because I was talking to the Girl in English (the other 2 couldnt speak English)
I made my way home shortly after, cant stand snobs in any culture.

So the BKK girls are just as friendly to Farangs IMO, but love looking down on the Isaan Girls.

I married an Isaan girl 4 years ago and she's great.

Not lazy around the house, works and doesn't drink or smoke.

Maybe complacent sometimes about how everything gets sorted out, but it's not to bad.

Hear a few horror stories from a few but its not happened yet with me.

Don't know about other areas of Thailand but others can tell me more about that.

Met a lot of Bangkok girls that are a bit snooty but maybe that is not the case for all.

Been here a while but don't know everything.

Enjoy the reality of real girls, refreshing compared to back home.

But meet a lot here that talk rubbish.

All comments and experiences welcome.

My present girlfriend comes from Issan. My previous girl came from Glasgow. Just as I would consider it preposterous to try to describe my ex's personality as that typical of all girls who came from Glasgow, I find it equally preposterous to think I could lump my girlfiends unique traits and personalities and package them as if they were typical of ALL girls who happen to come from the same area. i.e. do you really think all girls from Essex are thick?

I don't mean to offend you, I'm sure your just looking for some light banter, but if you think about it, don't you think your suggestion is a bit insulting? Whatever makes you think the girls from any particular area wouldn't have their own personalities?

Looking for experiences and thoughts rather than sweeping statements.

As I said, nobody knows it all, just looking for comments and input.

It's OK to ask people what they think.

If you want to talk about your wife or girlfriend as if you bought her at some slave auction then want to discuss and compare her merits and faults with others then feel free. I just think its insulting and degrading.

Oh so predictable (but I have very good respectable friends who are Rangers supporters) - so although the rangers support probably has the worst scum in the world, they are not ALL bad!

A bit damning jockey,

Don't have to talk about your Mrs, wasn't asking you to.

Just general thoughts dude.

Many people are way too sensitive and defensive to ask them anything.

Don't read too deeply man.

I thought it was a good Topic Spitfire, and yes my lady would happily sleep and "look TV" all day as a hobby (given the choice),
but now we've got the little'un shes a whirling dervish.
The passive asian lady stereotype goes completely out of the window too, complete nutcase. :thumb:

Good for you BaaBaa, glad to hear it.

That's all I was after.

Share some common ground or not as the case would be.

Debate and experience posting, which is common or not, is OK.

This is not a right or wrong thread, merely air what you think and let people make their own conclusions, which is still legal last time I looked.

Edited for spelling because it's too late.

My wife is from Nangrong ( Buriram ) and honesty I don't think that I could have made a better choice.
She lives with me here in Sydney Australia and works for a pharmaceutical company.
I too have heard of many horror stories so I guess that I'm lucky.
She takes care of her family herself and is so easy going that she is a pleasure to be with.

They are all lazy, unreliable and unhygienical.

This is what the Northern Thais say about the Isaan Thais. The Isaan Thais about the Southern Thais. The Southern Thais about the Bangkok Thais. The Bangkok Thai about the Central Thais. The Central Thais about the Northern Thais. And vice versa and in every possible combination.

Apart from Bangkok and Nonthaburi I lived in the North (Chiang Rai) in Hua Hin and now in the South (Krabi) and for me 99.99% are not lazy, not unreliable and not unhygienical.

Applying stereotypes is only a way for people to try to classify and hence get a grip on our chaotic world. Human nature.
Geographical stereotypes are applied everywhere around the world even in the smallest communities. But when you look closer you will observe that most of the time people will hang on to the stereoptypes but contrary to their believes have to admit that the individuals they actually know do not fit in the stereotype at all. "So you say people from Isaan are lazy? What about our neigbours? They are from Surin and both work very hard." Reaction would probably be: They are an exception to the stereotype. However never a reason to doubt the stereotype!

Many stereotypes are a more or less logical result of a certain state of affairs. In general Bangkok Thais are above average rich. Therefore the stereotype "rich people are arrogant, snobbish" is applied on all Bangkokians. In the Isaan countryside there are mainly poor farmer's families with a basic "toilet" in the backyard. Hence Isaan people are unhygienic. Luckily 99.99% of the individuals we actually encounter are an exception! Therefore stereotyping is not really a problem as long as it not leads to hatred and war. But that is another story.
We are all living in 'the good old days' of the future.

I hate to generalize, but I've never had great experience with girls from BKK. I dated a girl who was a general office worker, and her salary was less than 8000/month, her room 3000/month. She was originally from Surin, but lived in BKK for the past 8 yrs. The interesting thing was she didnt want to be seen eating goey teow, or som tum on the street corner and wanted to brush shoulders with the upper class in the Sukhumvit clubs and trendy restaurants. She wanted to completely forget about simple upbringing and use farang like me as conduit to a class of society she could not afford to be in. Now I am with another Isaan girl in Hua Hin, who skipped the BKK life, and continues living in Hua Hin similar to the way she was brought up in Isaan. She is very hard working, and refuses to buy anything remotely overpriced. Her knowedge of technology, politics, or of the world in general outside LOS is minimal, but is motivated to learn.
