Great! We'll be doing our now once a month tripette next week, and we'll certainly give it a look. Hopefully, by the end of the week the initial influx of curious shoppers will have calmed down a bit.

the reson for saying bollocks is that i live in the real world ie: real Thailand and there is no way that store will be open this Monday, and I do hope to eat my words as I do like my food.

Looks like you will be eating them, then, fed-up, as I also have it on very good authority (not the banners around town) that it will, indeed be the 7th. I wouldn't imagine 'b*ll*cks' make very good eating, but perhaps they're an acquired taste? :P

I just went past there an hour ago and it doesn't look to me like it's going to be open in 2 days time. There's still scaffolding & workers huts there!
Inside looked empty.

He's still got the "toilets for lady bays" thread on his mind.

Was there last Saturday and they had most canned good on the shelves as well as cheeses in the refrigerators sections. Tons of wine already on the shelves. Groups of employees having orientations and cash registers ready to go. Lots of waiing and assurances they will have THE best customer service. Hope they have good sushi quality seafood and some good beef for something much needed in this town!

I used to know the old Thai gentleman that started Villa (K. Siripong) The last time that I enquired he was still coming in regularly to the original Sukhumvit shop, at the age of eighty. He had a philosophy that is very rare in Thailand; and that was that the customer is what makes the business.

In those days you would never see the staff restocking the shelves and blocking the aisle's, and if you asked for something that you could not find, if it was in stock the staff would run off and fetch it for you. I would like to think that some of his philosophy is still incorporated today, but fear that if the local staff of the other existing Supermarkets is any indication, then it is going to be an almost impossible task.

He was also a pioneer of importing good quality wines, and at the time had the biggest selection of wines in Bangkok. Despite comments by others on here, a lot of his stock was imported from Australia and New Zealand. The only German products that I ever saw were locally manufactured in Bangkok by German run business concerns.

At what ever level that they operate, it will be way above the standard of Tesco, I`m sure. :thumb:

I saw a most impressive pair of pig's testicles at Macro recently, neatly wrapped in true supermarket style. Made me feel a bit insignificant, so I sniffed in a rather dignified fashion and moved on to the fishballs...

Looking forward to Villa!

Post by Chas »

I am also looking forward to checking this place out! ( I grit my teeth every time I walk into Tesco and hear that continuous bong bong bong chatter.) I have come to enjoy the experience of shopping as much as the actual fact of exchanging money for something and have been known to walk out of a store if I sense that the people are not pleasant or that I will have a bad memory of the transaction every time I see the article I purchased.

But I immediately worry about parking. One of the main reasons I even go to the Village Market Mall is that I can park there without a hassle. ( If you asked me what I hate most about Hua Hin it would be the lack of parking in town, especially in high season.)

Oops, I thought it was on the main road. Now it appears that it's not that building that fronts the road where the big banner is, bit in behind.
