Certificate of Income letter

Post by lomuamart »

I'm going to need one of these from The British Embassy towards the end of August. Looking at their web site, I note that you can apply by post and payment can be made by banker's draft or postal order made payable to The Embassy and cashable at Nana Post Office in BKK.
Has anyone got the letter this way before? Will HH Post Office have any idea what I'm talking about regarding a postal order? Has anyone got a banker's draft from a HH bank before?
I'd be grateful for any information, otherwise it's a trip and a night in BKK

If by "bankers draft" you mean a "cashiers cheque", the you can get one at any Bank. You may have to have an account with the Bank, not sure about that. But I have had several "cashiers cheques" from Bangkok Bank, cost 20 baht. Just make sure that the payee details are as per the Embassy website.

OK. Thanks for that folks. Sounds simple enough.
Maybe I don't get my big night out in BKK this time? :(

Lomu,

The advice you have been given is correct as I understand it. I think you will find HH Post Office more clued up than you think. It's just a matter of finding the right person.

I got a bankers draft or whatever they call it here for the Embassy and it was no trouble. As state before though, you must get the recipient name correct. It may be nothing like what you think. They get very funny if you send one that can only be cashed by another department.

Can I assume that this is for a marriage visa. If so, any information you get will be useful for me. I have not had a marriage visa for three years now but may be forced to get one.

The main difference for me is that all money is paid to me in Thailand so I won't need the letter from the embassy. Everything else should be the same.

Thanks guess,
This will be for a retirement extension - hit the big 50 next month. I had problems at Imm last year when I enquired about a marriage/family income extension. The officer was adamant that she wanted to see 40,000 per mth coming into a Thai bank from abroad. I tried to point out that the law had changed in 2006, but got nowhere. Was told to come back when 50 and get a retirement extension. No need to bring income into Thailand for that.
You're in a different situation with your dosh coming in here, so I shouldn't think you'll have a problem.
There was rather a long checklist of docs though and some might have changed since last you had the marriage extension. They want to see photos of you and the missus (3 or 4 different ones) including one of the two of you at the front of your house with the house number visible, ones of inside showing your clothes etc etc. You also have to draw a map of where you live so they can find you and check you're living together - if they bother.
I also doubt that you'll be able to use the 400k option (if you were thinking that way) as you've had a gap from the last time. Doubt they'll grandfather you.
If I remember anything else from last year, I'll post again.

Just a quick thought after reading through these posts.....
For sure you can apply by post for your income letter from the embassy
BUT
Doesnt the embassy letter have to be verified by the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Chaeng Wattana Road,Bangkok ??
You go to this place, pay 400 baht for express service and they stamp the embassy letter as authentic.
Note you can be waiting between 2-4 hours for this "express service."
I was told that Chaeng Wattana has to verify these letters for both extensions based on marriage and retirement.
Certainly worth checking with Hua-Hin Immigration beforehand if they require this.
Better than just turning up with your application only to find you need a quick journey to Bangkok !

I'd heard that Jomtiem Imm were asking for MFA approval a while back, but nowhere else. Believe Jomtiem have stopped it now.
However, thanks for a timely reminder. I'll be going to HH Imm before I apply to make sure I have the checklist right first and will ask about it there.

Of course the risk involved in asking if the embassy letter must be certified is that they say: "Yeah, why not, good idea. Yeah, you do that".
We are all living in 'the good old days' of the future.

Given that the interest rate at Bankok Bank is 0.25% I'm going to go for proof of income letter from embassy.
Is there a specific dept I should contact as I will be getting the letter by post. Any other advice much appreciated
Thanks
