England - The best in the world already!
The most obvious outcome to this summers tournament, having carefully considered the free fixtures sheet, is for England to beat Australia (I predict 3-1) in the final.
And tomorrow I shall be tripping up over frozen rocking horse shit on Soi Bintabaht to place a bet!!!
Odds anyone ?

Of course Scotland won, when there was no real competition.
Match them against world class teams such as Moldova, Belarus or Norway in games where there is real tackling, and the results are a bit more telling.
My team, Plymouth, sometimes come out on top in the Devon Bowl, but it doesn't mean they're going to make it in to the big time.
C'mon dan, how can you mention a team like Scotland in a thread that is extolling the virtues of a class side such as England?
And as for Austrailia, well..............I see Harry Kewell has just bottled it in another top game. Put the lad in at the big time, and he limps off - with players like that in the squad, Perente does right to do his crowing now.
Is that like USA playing in one of their world series games ie guaranteed to win because nobody else in the competition knows how to play? eg baseball, american football etc??Kirin Cup 2006

[quote="Perente"]T. Got the progression right, but the result ar#e about. Australia wins their first world cup.
Perente, do you really think Australia can reverse their losing streak in a game where only the goalkeepers can pick up the ball, and you dont get points for missing????
I shall however enjoy this banter, over a wet or two, as the games unfold.

Big Boy, Teabone. Do I know the players names ? Do I know the rules ? Do I have any interest in the sport at all ? Sorry, you've apparantly mistaken me for some-one who gives a sh*t. All that matters is that in any sport, in any arena, in all areas, Australia should resume their rightful place in the world and beat the English ( to the resounding cheers of the rest of the world !!!! )
If you're not living on the edge, you're taking up too much space.

Perente,
Remember the last proper game of rugby? You Aussies were so impressed, you felt that you had to decorate the Sydney Opera House as a tribute.
What will you decorate when you're stuffed at football?

Big Boy,
Please note a few of the other diddy teams who have won the Kirin Cup in the last few years or so. FIFA rankings in brackets.
2006 Scotland (62)
2004 Japan (17)
2000 Slovakia (43)
1998 Czech Republic (2)
1994 France (7)
1992 Argentina (8
Right, go on say something nice. Be generous for a change.
We're doing our best, so let us have our moment of glory.
You had one a long time ago, but I'm sure you're too young to remember what it was.
I now add a comment which was sent to me earlier by email and I might add that it does not necessarily represent the views of the editor/writer.
What's the meaning of the word England.
En - prefix..... In, on, into, upon; to bring into the condition of; example - enable, enchant, enslave.
gland - noun..... An organ secreting certain constituents, either for extraction or for elimination. example - Mammary gland.
therefore
En-gland - verb transitive. TO TURN INTO A TIT.
Strange that!!!!

Just a thought,
England has a population of 50,000,000 and has a Fifa ranking of 10.
Scotland has a population of 5,000,000, which is 10% of the English population.
We currently have a Fifa ranking of 62.
All things being equal, if Scotland was as good as England, our Fifa ranking should be 100.
Therefore, at position 62, we are proportionally, more than 33% better at football than England.
If only we were in the World Cup, we would surely win that as well..
I wonder how my European and Antipodean cousins compare.

Dan,
I'll start with a confession - I may be a passionate England supporter, but I do have a soft spot in my heart for our UK cousins in Scotland, Wales and Ireland. I think you'll find that most Englishmen do. I remember watching Ally's Army in Argentina, and was as gutted as any Scotsman when they came back after losing to Peru to draw with Iran and beat the great Dutchman, but still failed to qualify.
However, I've never known one of our UK cousins reciprocate whenever England are on top. I've watched many England games in pubs in Scotland, and have experienced the extreme hatred towards the English. They only watch England play football in Scotland in the forlorne hope that they will England humiliate themselves. Yes it does happen sometimes.
Because of the hatred, I rarely miss a chance to have a dig at Scotish football.
Back to the Kirin cup - a competition for those that have qualified to warm up in playing against losers. It isn't real football - have you seen the half hearted tackles? A team that's qualified for the World Cup isn't going to risk injury in a no-hoper competition.

Big Boy,
That was very nicely said. And touching. It's nice to have friends.
You're right and wrong in what you say about Scottish/Welsh/Irish football supporters not supporting England.
I think you'll find that about 99.9% of all Scotsmen, me included, have no argument whatsoever with our English neighbours.
It's a media thing.
We have Scottish football programmes, when it's absolutely fine to be patriotic.
England I'm sure has the same and you too can be patriotic then too, but the London based programmers/media regularly schedule UK wide programmes/articles which herald the achievements of, how can I put it.....ENGLAND.
It's a bit like being force fed tripe. Or.
Man City fans listening to United achievements.
Chelsea fans listening to Arsenal glories or
Everton listening to Liverpool victories.
Arrogance is not the nicest virtue in the world and I'm sure you will agree, that the media have that in abundance.
They target the biggest audience (England) and stroke their egos.
It's not nice and it's not clever, but the less succesful neighbour is going to love it when it's biggest rival gets absolutely humped.
If it doesn't happen, then it's still nice to hope that it might happen.
There's your explanation and that's why we support anyone other than England.
It's not you. We actually don't mind you at all.
Lots of Scots are supporting Trinidad and Tobago at this World cup.
I'm sorry, but I didn't find any mention in your reply, of why you are statistically 33% worse than us.

How about this one though ........
10 years ago Scotland were just 4 places behind England in the FIFA ranking's at no. 27.
Now, 10 years on, Scotland are 52 places behind England at no. 62.
If Scotland maintain this trend (and I don't see why not given the lack of young Scottish talent coming through) this may mean in 10 years time Scotland are placed no. 97 just below the footballing power-houses of Burkina Faso, Rwanda and Uganda
