NC question: BBQ sauce has what base?SunandFun wrote:I am born American, but probably will never go back to live there. Will be full time in Hua Hin later this year. Here now until July 18. I left Washington, DC but was born in Morehead, NC. So if you start talking really slow, so will I. HaHa! Would be helpful to know where you plan to live as Hua Hin is not so small any more. I am currently in Khao Takiab now but plan to shift to a house in the Palm Hills area when I return.

East North Carolina BBQ is Vinegar Based with spices, etc.
Western North Carolina (from starting from about Wilson and west) is tomato based.
Although you will find variations of both throughout the state and the country. I prefer the vinegar based style as that is what I was raised on.
Happy eating!

I'm in North Carolina now and since moving here I tried the vinegar based sauce for the first time. Growing up in Memphis I was familiar with some of the best hickory smoked barbecue (ribs and pulled pork) in the world using tomato based sauces. Now that I've tried the vinegar based sauce I like it sometimes for a change but still prefer Memphis style mostly.

My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?
