Watchmaker
I've had a Rolex wrist watch for over 20 years, worn every day and never a problem. Yesterday it stopped ! Can anyone recommend a reliable watchmaker who can hopefully fix it? TIA

Re: Watchmaker
There’s a shop in Cha Am that might have the expertise to fix it, run by a father and son team I believe. If you travel to Cha Am from HH, turn left at the second set of traffic lights and their shop is about 100 metres on the left hand side. I’m sure they’ll quickly be able to tell you yes or no.berlinmichael wrote: ↑Sat Aug 05, 2023 11:59 am I've had a Rolex wrist watch for over 20 years, worn every day and never a problem. Good call. What about Franck Muller, Baume & Mercier and Ulysse Nardin, any idea he can? Would he be able to source seals, winding pinion (if bent), crown, etc? Or is he Rolex only?fellwalker wrote: ↑Sat Aug 05, 2023 12:46 pm Hi

Re: Watchmaker
I’d be surprised if the op knows the answers to these specific questions - ok obviously no harm in asking, but it might be easier to call in and ask?404cameljockey wrote: ↑Sat Aug 05, 2023 1:31 pmGood call. DB correct in part, no English the better half did the talking, as always. About other makes not sure. Can get and did get new bezel, seals lubs and cogs for Rolex that work the spring winder etc. Cost not exorbitant, service and bits 8K Baht. In BKK the main dealer wanted circa 20K!!!!

His phone if you can get a Thai speaker is 032 530272
Re: Watchmaker
A Rolex should go only to a Rolexdealer or to Rolex. And these can do service only to Rolex References are sold in Thailand. Not every Reference from Rolex is provided in Thailand, my own experiance.

Re: Watchmaker
Agree - for peace of mind it should go to Rolex, for the circa £600 cost of a full service you basically get a new watch back. You get what you pay for.
However if you do want to risk your Rolex, bear in mind it's not unheard of for the guts of your watch to be stripped out and replaced with crap counterfeit parts and then sold on (as with any valuable watch they will have no shortage of takers for genuine parts) and you'll never know until it's too late, unless of course you have the £200+ tool to get the back off it and can check yourself.

Re: Watchmaker
generic parts though right? I don't think theres a genuine rolex bezel out there for 8k baht let alone the rest. Which Rolex is it? I'm even surprised a main dealer quoted you only 20k if you wanted a replacement bezel.fellwalker wrote: ↑Sat Aug 05, 2023 2:00 pm DB correct in part, no English the better half did the talking, as always. Re: Watchmaker
Much appreciate the responses everyone - many thanks. Of course anytime you need some kind of service here it always seems complicated with attached risks !
Re: Watchmaker
As a watchmaker I would strongly advise NOT handing over any decent brand watch including a Rolly to anyone but an authorized service agent nowdays unless you are really confident your repairer is on top of their game.
Rolex only supply genuine parts to authorized agents on exchange of the old parts.
There are some common generic parts out there , some are ok quality others very so so.
If you have to front up to Rolex to rectify any sub standard repair work they wont do part servicing and will go the whole hog and hit you with a heavy bill.
One sad issue with Rolex and other top shelf brands is that they will not perform any repairs to many older models if just one of the many components of the watch are now discontinued as a spare in which case you will have to try out your luck with a local guy, even if your watch is in a serviceable state as Rolex cannot confidently warranty their repair work.

Complexity is so simply overrated

I'm planning to go to the UK later this year so thinking I might wait to see an authorised Rolex dealer.....thanks again for all the responses
Re: Watchmaker
My first Rolex was the Reference 17014 Oysterquartz, and one time in Cha-Am the batterie got emty, it was not possible to change in Bangkok, because this Reference wasn´t sold in Thailand so i had change Betterie in Germany at my Rolexdealer. This was the reson for a automatic Reference, now i wear a 11 6610LN the Submariner.
The Quartz then been at Rolex Germany in Köln for Revision 926 Euro, now she retired in save place what a beauty.
