Taxi Or Car Rental in HH?
You guys have been helpful, and now I have another Q for you!
Ive just been reading about Taxis in HH and Cha-Am "expensive"
So, I am there for a week in Sept with my family. Would you recommend I hire a car or get taxi's? I will be going to golf NEARLY every day - but we'd also like to go to Cha-Am and drive around a bit of touring etc. I see there is an advertiser in your Forum banner so we'll probably try them. Another thing is that we are staying at the Sheraton and some say its "out of town a bit". HAVE I ANSWERED MY OWN QUESTION?

Re: Taxi Or Car Rental in HH?
I'm similar to you in that I don't live in Hua Hin but would not want to rely on taxis or tuks tuks when we visit. We just want to get in the car and go. I think the degree of freedom and flexibility of getting a rental car far outweighs any extra cost as compared to taxis, or the rental may even be less expensive depending upon the running around you'll want to do. The Sheraton is in Cha-Am so yes, IMO a rental car is much better. Pete
EDIT: Research what deals are available for cars from the airport. In that way you won't have the extra cost of down and back to Hua Hin/Cha-Am in a van or bus. If you do that, be sure to study the Google route map well as connecting to the roads south of Bangkok to Hua Hin is a bit complicated.

We generally rent when we go over and I echo Pete's comments, it's the ease that we like.
We are always running around somewhere so being able to hop in the car without worry is great!

I've hired a car twice now from the sponsor on this site, Car Rental Hua Hin, and found their prices and service excellent - a far better deal than the other places I tried!

Re: Taxi Or Car Rental in HH?
Hi Tony,
If you rent in Hua Hin DO take Hua Hin Car Rental.
Allmost every rental company in Hua Hin will offer you a car with a first class insurance, but these first class insurances will say very clearly: private use, not for hire/rent.
This might give you big problems in case of an accident and the insurance company finds out that the car is a rental. They will simply not pay out.
With Hua Hin Car Rental you can be sure you will have a car that is insured for the purposes of hire/rent. 100 % safe.

Just a minor point, but the Sheraton is slightly closer to Hua Hin than Cha Am, although not by very much. Its a fine hotel but stuck almost literally in the middle of nothing much, so for getting into Hua Hin or Cha Am during the day, or in the evening for a change of food than at the Sheraton (at considerably less cost), the advice of taking a rental car makes good sense.

much appreciated, thanks
Re: Taxi Or Car Rental in HH?
As an aside to the car rental question I have a policy which covers me and my family for collision damage waiver costs when I hire a car. For Europe the cost is under £40 for a year, world-wide policies are available. Much cheaper than hire companies` insurance. Try Carhireinsurance.com

Re: Taxi Or Car Rental in HH?
One more question guys...
based on your advice I will rent a car whilst in Hua Hin with my family. Im 51 years old and been driving in Aust for 30+ years. What advice can you give me ...
-I intend to drive to golf courses every day.
-Drive into town for eating/meals.
-Is parking a problem? / any rules etc?
-We'll drive to Cha-Am look around/touring etc
Any advice we should know?
