new O visa

Post by LaughTilIDie »

We tried to get my Thai girlfriend a B1/B2 tourist visa to come back to America with me for a couple of months with no luck. Talked to the chief of American immigration, guy named Tim, and what he told me sounded pretty stupid. No written guidelines on questions for his examiners seems as though they just wing it. My friend's examiner asked her 3 questions, how long we knew each other, where she was going to stay in the states another that was totally irrelevant. Good old Tim told me maybe my friend was nervous and didn't talk enough during her interview which I know to be total bullshit because she is a yapper. No review or appeals for this 214(b), no explanation other than the asswipe doing the interview got up an the wrong side of the bed. I was told to simply reapply and hope for the best. No one ever looked at the financial paper work I provided and actually refused to look at anything I supplied her to display good reasons for returning, like she owns her own home here in Bangkok maybe you'd think this might tweak the pea brain a little.

Anyway I was so pissed off I read the riot act to good old boy Tim and went to a Visa agent. I was told that she would be a shoe in for her visa if I applied for a retirement visa. This is contradictory to what my good buddy Tim told me, "the interview is about the Thai, not the American sponsor"

I handed over my passport signed a couple of documents and was given a letter of monthly financial to take to the embassy to be notarized. Next day I had my 90 day and 1 year O visa in hand.

I won't say it was cheap but if it works it will have been worth it.

I will update after her interview tomorrow.

Good luck, sounds like the U.S. embassy hasn't changed much in 20 years. The only way I could get my then Thai girlfriend to the U.S. was on a fiance' visa, which gave us 90 days to get married or she had to leave the U.S.

We did get married so it wasn't a problem but I guess you could try this route just to get her a 90 day visa whether you want to get married or not.
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

Well if you did 'read the riot act' to the Chief of American Immigration you may well have m,ade the situation worse.

IMO when dealing with either the police, immigration or customs one should tread carefully.

have you tried again? and?

would you mind telling me what the agent charged you? and their name?

I am coming in late Feb on a 90 day visa I will be getting here in the states, and I plan to get an O visa once I arrive.

thanks! and sorry about the runaround, I have heard it is difficult to bring a thai lady back to the states, I know it can be done, but I have heard lots of stories like yours.
