A lot of BIG Jellyfish at the moment
A lot of BIG Jellyfish at the moment
I walk my dogs nightly on Hua Hin Beach. I noticed last night that a lot of very big Jellyfish were being washed ashore. When I say big, I mean diameter the same as the length of a fully grown Rottweiler. These are certainly the largest I've ever seen washed ashore. They were all white when washed ashore. Of course, they will sting, but I've no idea of the severity of the sting. It's unlikely that their size will make them particularly dangerous.
Tonight there were even more being washed ashore, However, probably only 20% were of the big variety. The rest were probably a foot or less diameter. If I shone my torch in the water, it was easy to watch them queuing to be washed ashore. Nothing like last year's sea nettle episode, but enough to warn people to be careful, especially with young kids.

Re: A lot of BIG Jellyfish at the moment
Its strange how we get so many jellyfish along this coastline, it seems to be all year round now .
Over in Pattaya (just across the water ) they dont seem to get hardly any at all , unless the water is just to dirty there
I guess its down to water currents/tides .... its a shame as it puts you off going swimming in the sea here for sure. i have been stung countless times , sometimes the jellfish are so small you cant even see them in the water , but you sure a hell feel their sting !
Best to stick to the pool for a nice swim

Still quite a few last night, but less than the previous night. Just be careful if swimming please.
I do this walk nightly, and yes, I always see the odd one washed ashore, but the current influx is far greater than the norm (still some big babies coming in as well ). Yes, I'm sure its all to do with currents, but I don't believe as a general rule that Hua Hin has, on average, any more of a problem than anywhere else. Its strange how we get so many jellyfish along this coastline, it seems to be all year round now .

Re: A lot of BIG Jellyfish at the moment
There were a few swimmers at 10 last night.
Back onto the jellyfish, shining the torch on the water didn't show loads of jellyfish waiting to be washed ashore like the previous night - another sign that the problem is easing.

Have you tested the water? Or is it another "it's brown so it must be sewage". You know because of the swell/tide gets more movement below which disturbs the sand/silt below which causes the colouration.richard wrote:Why anyone would want to swim in that sewage water I will never knowBig Boy wrote:Still quite a few last night, but less than the previous night. Is it dirty?
Re: A lot of BIG Jellyfish at the moment
FYI - we walked a couple of miles along the beach everyday from 14th-22nd Feb and only saw a couple over the 9 day period. Hopefully the problem is reducing now.
(But the one's we saw were huge !)

Re: A lot of BIG Jellyfish at the moment
Yes, I'm still waling the beach most nights. 2 nights ago I saw 1 HUGE jellyfish, last night I saw 1 fairly small jellyfish and tonight there were 2 small jellyfish, so the problem is minimal at the moment.

Was down for a 2 hours walk on sunday and didn´t se any jellyfishes, not even one.
Re: A lot of BIG Jellyfish at the moment
Will be in HH in a week or 2, are the Jellyfish still a problem ?
Re: A lot of BIG Jellyfish at the moment
I still walk the beach nightly, and I've only seen 2 jellyfish in the last week, so not a huge problem. However, there will always be some out there.

I hope it's just temporary! Does anybody know what to do if you get stung? I heard about vinegar but i'm not sure if it works.
Re: A lot of BIG Jellyfish at the moment
Urine is a good solution

Re: A lot of BIG Jellyfish at the moment
I've had a wierd fantasy dream about getting stung and having a beautiful babe drop her bottom to piss on the sting on me. Thanks for ruining that. Pour vinegar on me? Yuck!
