Re: Traffic jams on Rama II Road blamed for Hua Hin's decline

Used Rama2 very early this morning to go to the airport and very light traffic. Was dropped off just after five and the car was home by eight thirty so no traffic issues the other way.

Re: Thailand to introduce compulsory travel insurance/tourist tax

Makes you wonder why any non-Thai who lives in Thailand but works abroad spending less than six months in the country in any year would bother trying to get or maintain/extend a visa and here health insurance. Just waltz in visa free and on the odd occasion they are actually here longer than 90 (or ...

Re: Swimming pool for lap swimming

Water quality and cleanliness was good as far as I could see. Perhaps this is partly due to it being a pool for serious swimming.

Re: Swimming pool for lap swimming

Have only been there once in December 2024 so cannot be sure of accurate costs and opening times. Perfect for lap swimming and on the day we went it had some lanes set up on the seaward side. I think it opens to the public around 1500 and non members pay a gig at a table next to the pool at the main...

Re: Thailand tourism situation

Many high end tourists are return low end ones and perhaps discouraging the lower levels will have a knock on effect. More and more budget travellers are being tempted by Vietnam and Cambodia as prices rise here. This seems to be ignored by the present powers that be but may come back to bite them. ...

Re: Noise, power, and scams topped Thailand complaints list last year

I have accepted noise along with many other things as part of living in Thailand. Living close to Nong Khon temple is generally quiet, recently cleared brush increased the road noise and there was something going on at the temple but that went quiet around ten in the evening. Clearing the land has a...

Re: Buying online from Lazada

My Lazada wallet is used to pay for items although the only time it has any credit is when an item is refunded. When I buy something I select the wallet and it takes the amount rom my Thai bank account. If thee is any credit it will use this first before taking from my bank account. I have not tried...

A380 can land in fog at DMK but not BKK

Today the A380 I was on made two aborted approaches to BKK in fog and then diverted and landed in similar conditions at Don Muang. Am confident one of our resident avgeeks can tell me why this is the case. I suspect that the equipment is different but would have thought that BKK would have right kit...

Re: Tax residency in Thailand and taxing overseas income

Thank you Big Boy for letting us know what you are experiencing. I am sure that there are many like myself who will face this hurdle in the coming years and are following the subject with interest. It is far better to get a picture, albeit a personal one and we all will have different situations, of...

Re: Fitbit or similar worn health smart devices

I have an Apple Watch and used it when cycling. Way too clever for me and annoying as it kept pausing and not restarting when I had a rest (could be sorted out by new tech able persons than myself). Finally gave up with it when it played up if worn on my tattooed wrist and also got fed up charging i...

Re: N.Y. Free Entry to National Parks - Thais Only This Year

The huge difference in pricing normally in place only serves to dissuade me from visiting any national park unless I really want to go there. What is worse is that many like myself would not take our Thai family to a National Park because of this. I know that I am not alone in feeling that this free...

Re: Minivan, bus and road accidents

Saw the after effects of the usual u-turn incidents just before Makro outbound on Phetkasem yesterday morning (30th) around 0745. Box van hit by outbound vehicle, perhaps the usual result of flashing your headlights bring less effective than using the brakes and travelling at a reasonable speed. Ano...

Re: Feral Dogs

In our area I have also seen that owners have been keeping their dogs controlled and even caged which has made it considerably safer for cyclists and pedestrians. Perhaps this indicates that moves have been made and the locals fear their dangerous mutts will disappear along with the feral dogs. When...

Re: Hua Hin City football tops

Do they have very large sizes? A long time ago I bought a couple of shirts at a shop on the road that goes up and over the hill from the main railway crossing (a long time ago) and I think the max size was a 3XL (Asian). Am sure that Big Boy will know if they sell sizes suitable for 'larger' people ...

Re: Chips, French Fries, Fried Potatoes, etc.

Remember it well, even stayed up that small soi for a while in 1990 when I first moved to Hua Hin. Food was good and yes, proper chips. A few mozzies hiding amongst the junk too.
