Re: Name difference problem renewing UK passport

Thanks for the responses, things are looking up after a few down days. The UK passport office will be giving back the UK passport as it does not expire until October and there is now time for a visit to Thailand to get things sorted out. Great to know that multiple forenames can be used and this wil...

Re: Name difference problem renewing UK passport

So far those who have responded have changed family names usually due to marriage. In this case it is the forenames that are the issue. Thai passport with one Thai forename, UK passport with a western name and the Thai forename. Can a Thai have two forenames? Will one of the names have to be dropped ...

Re: Name difference problem renewing UK passport

I understand what you are saying Big Boy but while the relation concerned was younger travel to and from the UK was a regular thing and like my wife, departure from the UK was done on the UK passport and arrival in Thailand done on the Thai passport. For all that time the name difference existed and...

Re: Name difference problem renewing UK passport

Unfortunately it was declared and has caused no end of problems. Totally agree with HHTel and will be recommending this to other relations where this may exist.

Name difference problem renewing UK passport

Apparently about five years ago new rules were brought in by the UK passport authority applicable to those who have dual nationality but the names on the passports are different. If you declare on your renewal form that you have dual nationality and that your name is not the same on the other passpo...

Re: Greetings folks -- a self introduction

I hope things work out for you. There are lots of opticians already in HH so that may not be a profitable option. Health care can be expensive and you will need to price up the cost of care for your mother. Good that you have been here before but as I am sure many will say, if you pick HH then rent ...

Re: How Do You Receive Your Thai TV?

Free satellite in the bedroom and cable downstairs. Like many I had problems with True so ditched it (eventually after a lot of bother). The cable is a bit iffy but not surprising as it has fox sports and is very cheap.

Re: Buying a SUV?

And of course there is the new Nissan Terra due later this year which has received a good reception in the Philippines. It looks like it will be slightly different here (better) but initial reports still give the Ford Everest the top spot in comparisons. Might be worth considering if you are in the ...

Re: UK Retirees to face cuts in Pensions

Good points made and in my situation I will see what develops over the next ten years as it no doubt will change and unlikely for the better. The thread has expanded a bit from it's original point but in an interesting way and some excellent information has been presented. I do wonder about the syst...

Re: UK Retirees to face cuts in Pensions

This does throw up the question yet again of residency. I know there are people who have a PR visa status but they seem few and far between. Most are on a Non Imm O-A 90 day reporting, annual renewal type visa. Is this residency? If you maintain a UK presence i.e. an address (your kids), bank accoun...

Re: Govt crackdown on Airbnb, declares bookings illegal

AirBnB is getting a lot of flack about this but what about the other sources. How many of the local and Thai renters use either a facebook source or local contact. You only have to ask the guards at a lot of the estates and you will soon be connected to someone who rents out houses. I would hazard a...

I thought the new Honda Big Wing is before the airport on the right northbound. The Ducati showroom is much farther out.

Re: Thailand tourist slump continues

Having first settled here in 1990 I actually preferred it then. Perhaps Hua Hin has grown beyond what is needed. Are two large malls necessary and multiple Starbucks? Do we need so many drinking areas. Soi Rainoon used to be a nice residential street. Expansion yes but over expansion?
