Thanks for all input - failing oil, will give the kerosene a try - I know that I can use olive oil in the lamps, but expensive solution.
BTW, oil mixed with either Citronella or Lemon Grass is excellent for keeping mozzies away, with the advantage of smelling great. We use this in South Africa.

Does anybody know where I can buy lamp oil/kerosene (eg citronella or lemon grass) in HH? Have looked at various shops like Home Pro, Living Index but with no luck ...
