Re: The new Don Mueang Airport

For such a low price country (Thailand), Swampy is bloody expensive for just about everything. Chocolate bars are about 8 times the price of the same stuff in Dubai, one of the world's most expensive cities. I hate paying 175 baht for a singha as well. Hope the new place (old place) is better.

Re: Bars on Soi 80

Gaew bar or something like that on Soi 80 rents motorbikes. The lady manager/owner is proud of her motorcycle list, and can show you scars from the many times she has fallen off. Great legs though.

Tried a new dish from the blackboard last week, pepper beef and prawns, absolutely brilliant. And the service was impeccable, waitress (Nen) was perfect balance of service without intrusion.

Re: Avoiding the Hua Hin Farang Building Mafia

Surely the good reputation of a builder doing a good job for a fair price is far better than a cheap builder with a dodgy reputation at teh going rate fro thailand. You will have to live with what you get for a fair time.

Re: beer prices

Try drinking in Dubai. Okay we ar elucky that a Muslim country allows us to drink. Bottle of Corona typically AED 36 which is 288 baht/ Pint in Meat Company 370 baht-ish. Don't forget that for your 80 baht bottle you get to laugh at the tourists who are unaware of the katois. Bargain.

Re: A cautionary tale - submerged rocks at Hua Hin beach

Maybe I am just stupid, but the rocks can be easily seen at high and low tide, there are signs about not swimming next to them. The beach gets a bad press yet I find it to be quite stunning (when the sun shines), the water is clear and seems to therefore be clean, the jellyfish are unfortunate but t...

Re: Normal tip for caddie in Hua Hin ?

For me the caddie is an asset and a crucial part of the golfing experience in Thailand. As is walking the course. In Dubai we have to take buggies and we cannot get caddies. Having four hours walking in the sun bantering with your mates accompanied by a smiling Thai lady is a great day out, and it i...

Re: would you frequent a great steakhouse(meat from aussie).

We get a lot of aussie beef and lamb over in Dubai, and to be honest it is generally over rated. Whatever they inject into the beasts for the sea journey leaves a lot of meat with a liver like after taste. Much prefer New Zealand beef, but it is pretty expensive. I woud really like ot find aplace th...
