More good reasons not to live in UK

Post by Arcadian »

Reported in today`s newspapers,
man fined 1000 pounds for parking on his drive without the pavement being lowered.
Lady fined 700 pound for putting her dustbin out 1 day early.
man fined 85 pounds for causing death by dangerous driving.
Unbelievable? Not any more.

Last April my father (in rural Suffolk) had a spot of bother with the Environmental Health Dept. or whatever they're called.

He had trimmed his small beech hedge and decided to burn the trimmings. Someone in a house - which you could only see with binoculars rang up the local council to complain. Two hours later, and when the tiny little bonfire had well since expired, a 'suit' turned up to investigate this heinous crime. The evidence was now a tiny pile of ash - no smoke, no fire. The local council offices are twenty miles away, and I guess he got a nice allowance from the taxpayers for his company car and (of course) he was reimbursed for fuel. He needed to write a report (of course) - and I do hope it included all the expletives from my father :) . The 'suit', slightly embarrassed, scuttled off to write his report - after, obviously, reading the riot act to my dad. What IS going on in the UK?

Please don't misunderstand me, I'm not a Muslim basher - it's just the degree of PC which seems pertinent to this thread.

Councillors in east London have reacted angrily after being asked to observe Muslim fasting rules in meetings held during Ramadan.

Tower Hamlets councillors were asked to "not partake of any refreshments" until Muslim councillors received their permitted evening meal, known as Iftar.

Liberal Democrat councillor Stephanie Eaton said: "This is going too far."

I think so too...

The question is, who did the asking, and perhaps who asked the one who did the asking? A load of hogwash to be sure. Pete

Get this - Any single man walking alone in a park or public place will be challenged as to why he is there. If his reasons do not pass the criteria he will be/forced to leave!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is apparently to stop Phedophiles preying on young children.

Do you have any sources for these as with respect, they all seem unlikely, as they are portrayed above.

But I believe it a planning offence to create a drive-way without seeking the authority of the Local Council, and permission hasn't usually been applied for or given if the 'pavement hasn't been lowered' - a little like illegal access over someone elses property? But not an expert

Thanks.

This didn´t make to the newspapers today in Finland:

Man fined 35 Euros for not having a parking ticket of 1 Euro.

That was me, bloody hell. Guilty as charged, mea culpa, mea maximum culpa but 35 Euros. Now, I could buy two cases of beer with that. :guns:

And people back in the UK wonder 'why?' last year was the first year that more people officially left(emigrated) than arrived. Those figures would not have included the others that just quietly 'bolted'.
