Sounds very similar to the bunch of old power mongering cronies who have been at the helm of this country for the past few years.

All PAD want are ALL traces of Thaksin removed from positions of power, that includes his lawyers, buddies, brothers in law, proxy puppets, gardeners, school mates and second cousins twice removed.

Buksi if thats what you believe is all PAD want dream on, where does 70% 30% have anything to do with getting rid of Thaksin who do you think are going to do the appointing
Disenfranchising the poor now that is nothing new the polititions before Mr T did that in spades
Read their Bios Steve G gave the links
Mr T was a crook so now take the country down the toilet that makes for really inteligent politics
I dont hear even a whimper from PAD about improving the education in the areas they complain about just disenfranchise them
I put a post on here on the coup thread with my ideas of how to end this corruption nothing nana that silence spoke volumes

Sarge we're never going to agree on politics and since you're on here 24/7 you're always going to strive for the last word.

You and I have completely different situations and outlooks on life here hence our differing political opinions, lets just leave it at that and enjoy the weekend, I'm getting tired of arguing with a brick wall.

I read a long interview with the PAD leader Sondhi yesterday in Asia Times Online, and to tell you the truth the PADs "Thai Democracy" argument makes a lot more sense.

His point that the last 56 years of so called western democracy have been a disaster for Thailand does hold water.....the country is locked into a repeating cycle of crony govt/military coup/crony govt/military coup....and has been for 56 years. As he says ... its time for a rethink and a new system that is tailored to fit Thailand's needs not the wests ideas of "democracy in a box". If "semi-democratic democracy" works then so be it......because the current system is a bad joke that has been flogged to death.

As to SadSak getting back in.....looks increasingly slim after this morning. Looks to me like a house dissolution is on the cards.

Great.....an election will be due just about at the start of high season...just in time to kick the tourist industry in the nuts again.

...bars closed for virtually two trading weeks again = even more pissed off tourists. :cuss:

Ironically:

Entire South East Asia is currently evaluating and emulating relevant lessons from “Thaksinomics” made famous by the ex-Prime Minister of Thailand, Thaksin Shinawatra.http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/Fea ... 426670.cms

Latest in The Nation is that Sadsak has withdrawn after seeing most of his buddies not turn up to vote for him.....seems he does understand shame after all.

So apparently its bye bye SadSak.....

Other reports were suggesting that he would turn down the nomination anyway, but he has obviously decided not to risk the humiliation of losing the vote.
It’s a logical decision, this way he saves face by going for an infringement that nobody cared about anyway instead of being forced out by the PAD.

Hi there Y'all

Sometimes I have the Feeling that the Thai Polilititians (Allthough more the old Dinosuars Polititains than the younger inexpiriences ones) are Acting like The Ferengi species of fo Star Tek

The Feremgi Philosophy can be easily applied to Thai Dinosaur Poliititians in this way

The old Thai Polititians philosophy, the pursuit of profit at any cost was the guiding principle for all traditional all old Thai Polititains. With the invention of currency and the concept of profit approximately 10,000 years ago The old Thai Polititian's philosophy began to evolve toward the pursuit of material wealth. This guiding principle became so basic to old Thai Polititians that it was eventually codified in the Rules of Acquisition.

Old Thai Polititians Rule of Aquisition

Official Rules

1 Once you have their money, you never give it back.
3 Never pay more for an acquisition than you have to.
6 Never allow family to stand in the way of opportunity.

9 Opportunity plus instinct equals profit.
10 Greed is eternal.
16 A deal is a deal.

31 Never make fun of an old Thai Polititians mother.

Well that's my current take of things in Thai Politics after a couple Bottles of Paulaner on a nice rainy cozy Night in BKK and a rough News Week that ended today when Samak announced to to run as Pome Minister /

Buksi - you're clearly a supporter of PAD (and I can understand that you've got more of a vested interest than some others, given the future of the Buksi Babes) But can you tell us what the PAD's stated policies are?

I can see that with Samak it's just more of the same old same old corruption high finance vote buying tax fiddling regime. But who finances PAD? Do they have enough resources to realistically fight an election?

Yes those of you that know me will probably know the reasoning behind my political inclinations. Have a read of this if you want to understand PAD's policies (and no, I don't agree with them all):

Thanks for that Buksi. So the guy has some principles but no policies - I like him - it's just like UK politics!

Mags

you are confusing PAD with a political party - they dont have to have policies as they are a protest group with the sole stated aim of de-thaksinising politics.

What Sondhi says is, unfortunately, very true. 56 years of so called democracy here just hasnt worked and seems now to be actually holding Thailand back....which is possibly why big interests like the US and UK carry on banging the "democracy" drum .... keep the "locals" poor, dumb and infighting so we get all the cream ....

The fact is, pure and simple, that Thai culture, with its still strongly ingrained patronage and kow towing, means you end up with more of a Roman late Republic period Senate than a post millennium UK parliament. Dirty politics, factionalism, vote rigging and buying, corruption, and populist exploitation of the poor and less educated masses.....the same old fat well fed families in parliament year after year because they are "names".......welcome to mid 50's BC Rome. Democracy on the surface, plutocracy underneath. And just like the Roman late Republic, Thailand is tearing itself apart via its political divisions. What is needed is a Gaius or Tiberius Gracchus.....what we have is a whole stack of Sulla's and Varro's.

Some of what Sondhi proposes seems to be a backwards step till you superimpose it on Thai society, and see it actually may be a way forward out of this mess. Even just reducing the number of MPs Issan and the North send to parliament.....base MP numbers on population rather than old districts.....its daft where two thirds of the country are less populated yet send proportionally many more MPs than heavily populated urban areas.

A couple they could add, care of the "Sandman Says Nail Corrupt Politicians To Trees" faction, would be:

that no person who stands for election can have legal cases pending against them, or have been convicted in the past 10 years of a "serious" offense....ie one that carries a potential prison sentence.

Any MP must declare fully all assets and interests before taking up seat. Proof of concealment of any declarable matter results in up to a 10 year ban from politics depending on scale of concealment. Using the "innocent mistake" defense results in an automatic 10 year max sentence.

All MPs and especially cabinet members are subject to constant and ongoing monitoring by independent internal affairs department that is outwith the political appointment system. Id suggest it was run by the judiciary as a wing of the executive. MPs under investigation are subject to loss of passport and may not leave Thailand until after proved innocent.

No more red and yellow cards......any corruption proved results in a life ban from politics. Red card issued.....local election re-run with that party not allowed to run a candidate. More than 20% of the elected MPs from any party proven to have red cards...... party disbanded and all members banned for 5 years.

How about applying a little Roman Law as we have a Roman parliament?

Scrap the lesse majeste law, as it is now becoming a tool used to smear and attack. That or change the law so that someone making what proves to be false or pointless accusations faces heavy legal repercussions themselves.

Adapt the libel and slander law so that it cant be abused by the scum like Thaksin in the recent wanted poster incident. Make it so that again a failed accusation means the accuser faces heavy legal action themselves.

Install a bounty system whereby fugitives from the law have bounties put out for their being brought in. Police are included in that scheme.....maybe then they will do their jobs.

Proof of corruption means that all assets, personal and familial, are subject to confiscation by the state and auctioning off to bidders, based on a set scale of offense. Assets recovered are to be used to build schools, hospitals and village infrastructure projects only.

And one last one. Political bans mean exactly that. So any party who has dealings at any level with banned politicians faces legal action. No more PPP getting directions from Mr T or any of the other 111 TRT party execs that are banned yet still exert open influence on the PPP. No contact at all. Proven contact attracts legal action and political bans. That should help marginalise corrupt MPs.

then maybe Thailand will move forward and become a real Tiger.....or alternatively they can carry on carrying on and watch the pie fight continue.....
