SJ,
I think he's a good player, not brilliant or world class. He often looks like he needs to shed a few pounds, as some other players do, such as Rooney, Ashton and Robinson. Maradona also had the same problem I believe. I was just explaining something that some of the West Ham fans picked up on both while he was at West Ham and since he has been at Chelsea, and it makes him quite sluggish at times. For me, Gerrard is a much better player, and if I could be bothered i could name a lot of better midfielders, but not necessarily English.

I'd have him somewhere between brilliant and world class, but not w.c. no. But its a game of opinions, Gerrard is a different level for sure.

Even us Spurs fans have a healthy respect for Frank :D :

i'd have him somewhere between good & very good.
he had his best (& only!) decent performance at international level against croatia but to be fair he has been a consistent performer for chelsk & scored regularly.
like w/lust points out, thats a lot easier when you are in a star studded line up.

I'd put Lampard as an excellent player in the Premiership but mediocre when playing for England.
He's won fifty odd ? caps for England but you can probably count his really good performances on one hand.
However, with Chelsea he is consistently an excellent player.I think a lot of credit for that has to go to Jose Mourinho who gave him self belief and certainly knew how to get the best out of him.Hence the rumours of Inter Milan wanting to sign him.
Since Mourinho left he's still performed at a high standard because he is used to the players and the style of play.
But I think this would be just for Chelsea.......I reckon fans of Man Utd,Liverpool or Arsenal would be horrified if they thought Lampard was signing for their club.
Gerrard, however,is a completely different kettle of fish......I think any of the other top clubs in the Premiership,La Liga or Serie A would be delighted if he signed for them.
