Gooooooooood Mornin Huaaaa Hin! Rockin in the free world from Gulf to golf course.....

Back again after that last track..... Nowhere to Run To by Martha and the Vandellas....goin out to a Mr T care of the Supreme Court Justices....theres a name for a band.....

talking of vandals lets go to our newsman on the spot Goomer.....

Hey hey Goomer.....hows the Big Mango?

Well Sandy, Goomer here on day two of the great Bangkok riots.....

So Goomer....did you follow my advice and keep your head down?

Im lying down as we speak Sandy....

Lying down?

Well eveybody is sitting down on the lawns and having a picknick, singing songs....so I need to lie down to be shorter than them....

O kayyy Goomer....not quite what I meant....so everyone is sitting down?

Yep Sandy...its a regular Woodstock up here....

So no burning buildings?

Nope...

No storming the barricades?

Nope

No burning cars and screaming mobs....

Nope

So no riots as such....

Nope. Ah wait....I see some police men......they are approaching the crowd....ah no they've just come over to share some Som Tam.....

Well, thanks for that one Goomer....great report. Over to Bob on the traffic desk.....hows the traffic in town Bob?

Very quiet Sandy....its the PAD roadblock see...stopping traffic on Phetkassem.....stopping traffic to and from Bangkok....

What?..... they have roadblocked Hua Hin?

No Sandy....Chumphon.....

But thats 300km south of Bangkok isnt it?

Indeed it is Sandy....but thats where the PAD built their roadblock to stop traffic getting to and from Bangkok.....Chumphon. You know the Thais mate....no sense of direction.

No sense of distance either mate! Still....traffic is quieter today so win win really.....Now heres Pichai with the weather....

Same Same Mr Sandy.....

Excellent...so there it is folks....no riots, no coup, no traffic jams and the weather is great.....

Now to a special request....this is from the archives....the core leaders of the PAD have requested this golden oldie....The Ink Spots singing "I dont want to set the world on fire"......groooooveee........take it!

isnt there a Surf FM or something?

I hate radio because of the adverts and funnily enough, despite my two posts, the gobsh*te DJs who talk over the tracks, etc..... thai station DJs are even worse than Brit ones....whenever I hear Thai radio it seems the DJs talk over most of the track they play....aaaaaaarrrrgh! :cuss: Shut up you little sod...thats Carabao!!!!!

Hello

Always surprises me the price of beer in Hua Hin. I go to Pattaya for golf regularly and prices their are almost 1/2 that in Hua Hin.

You could go to Pattaya have 10 beers and stay in a nice Hotel on Rd 3 with what you have saved.

They pay rent and wags also, mystery to me.

Bit of Thai logic too

Fewer customers??? OK jack the prices up so the few pay more. Applies to Hotels, golf, shops and bars

You must be with the Pattaya tourist authority. If you charged half the Hua Hin price for beer you would be losing money.

OK if you compare the Hilton HH with a sleazy Pattaya Third Road bar maybe. I think you find that small bottles of Singha in Walking Street are over 100 Baht now.

I played golf at Dragon Hills in Ratchaburi on Wednesday and Thursday,
250 baht for green fees and 200 baht caddie fee, that's a quarter ( if not less ) than the price of most clubs around Huahin, FACT!

To be fair, A beer on Soi 8 or similar, which is still busier than Bintabaht, is about 20 baht cheaper (50 Baht ish) Cocktails about 60 baht (Strong too)

Farang Food is not debatable price and quality wise.

Price of beer to the bar owner is samesame HH or Pty or wherever.
Pty barkeeps make less profit on each beer.
They have to make it up on volume of sales.
The smart ones can do it, there are more punters drinking more heavily in Pty than in HH.

I must admit that I never ventured much down to that end of town unless I was on my weekly Big C trip. I never noticed prices but they certainly weren't high. If I wanted a cheap night out it could be found easily the other side of second road.

Cocktails is a strange one. To do them you need a good supply of staff or a slow bar. The time it takes for the little profit is just not worth it in a busy bar.

Strong probably means loads of Spey Royal and Sang Som. You just have to work it out. Premium dark spirits are getting close to 1,000 Baht for 70 cl. You get 27 measures from bottle. 1.5 measures in a cocktail will already have used up 55 baht in costs. White spirits (not white spirit) would be a little over half that.
