Where is everyone?

Post by Spitfire »

Could some of the more experienced posters enlighten me as to why there are 3798 registered users but only a couple of hundred or so regular posters whose names frequently pop-up. OK, sure some just join and hardly ever post, but that cannot account for so many.

Where are you all hiding? Property and Real Estate? Night Crawlers?

I've spent a couple of hours today reading through back posts on a couple of sections of the forum, including the dreaded PRE.

I was surprised to see so many posters that I never even knew existed with posts of anything from 20-1500.

I don't have access to Nightcrawlers at the moment, but it's probably the same.

Don't get me wrong, lots of good stuff everywhere but got the impression that PRE is a bit of a 'rottweiler on steroids'. I don't post there as I don't know much about the subject.

Suppose I'm just curious and wondering why some of you don't come out of a perticular forum and add to the others.

Sure there's a simple answer and you can call me naive, no problem. Just an observation and would like to get a few thoughts as I'm still a new poster myself really.

Sorry admin, don't want release the genies and give you too much extra work but I was genuinely surprised. Forgive me if this topic is unsuitable.

spitfire,
There are a lot of 'lurkers' on HHAD - people who join but never post - and according to the head honchos at HHAD, the number is higher than on other forums. Why that is we don't know, but the people that do post are definitely, on average, both more active and of a better quality than many other forums. In answer to your question about people that post on one section but not another, I think you answered it yourself, when you said,
I don't post there as I don't know much about the subject.
I'm sure that is the case with other posters too. Just be happy that not only do we all love Hua Hin, but that (generally) we are able to chat and debate without it descending into the chaos you get elsewhere; and we can all have a beer in our favourite place afterwards!

Here we all is!
'PRE' certainly seems to have caused a bit of a debacle of late and might be where a lot of the lurkers are as well. I don't really take note of the number boxes too much, just go with the flow (and avoid PRE now - it got too boring and repetetive) as did the conspiracy stuff.
Maybe a lot of the lurkers have never lived in or even been to HH - so feel a bit intimidated by those of us who have - and know each other in many cases. I could see that HHAD maybe looks to an 'outsider' like a kind of private members club sometimes, with all the banter which goes on. I hope that doesn't put people off.
Pleased to see though that there appear to be more posts in the Scandi section - which is pretty annoying when you can't read it. Are they all conspiring against us? Or discussing property deals? Ooooh Noooh !

No conspiracy I'm afraid mags, but it would be good to see you there.
Why don't you brush up some of your brains hidden language files?
(If I'm not too far away from the issue I believe a lot of you islanders have veins partly filled with viking blood).
I intend to live forever - so far so good.

Aye Norseman, thankfully we are full of Wiking blood. Unfortunately the Wiking language gene went AWOL somewhere along the line!

PS - I know how to order a Royale beer - is that any good?

Spitfire,

I'm one of those who pass by HHAD a couple of times per day, but don't log on if I don't see anything worth contributing to.
Granted, I'm over in Bangkok and *could* be branded as one of the dreaded Bangkok Weekenders, but I typically won't have anything local to contribute.

I have, on the occasional weekend stumble, run into one or two HHAD members also having a tipple who have not posted for quite a while. I guess they probably feel the same way as I do about it.

Having a high post count does not mean anything to me.

BTW, if you check out the photos of the HHAD Party 2006, that's me on the left showing off my better side  on the cover photo...
