Taksin 'a good man' : Grateful PM

Post by Spitfire »

Bit surprised to read this, thought I'd share it,

Prime Minister Somchai Wongsawat yeaterday insisted he was not an ingrate and praised his brother-in-law and ousted premier Thaksin Shinawatra as a good man regardless of what has befallen him.

"San Kamphaeng is the birthbplace of Thaksin and I have made my mark in life because of San Kamphaeng support," he said to a crowd of cheering villagers during his visit to Chiang Mai, the hometown of his wife Yaowapa and her brother Thaksin.

He said he owed Thaksin a debt of gratitude for helping him get a head start in life and that he shared the home town's sentiment of having good thoughts about Thaksin.

The prime minister took the trip to pay respect to the Shinawatra ancestors and had a busy day attending several functions.

After an overnight stay at his Mae Rim home, he began the day around 7 am by welcoming well-wishers who congratulated him on his appointment as prime minister.

An hour later he took, he took questions from reporters. He said he was legally a resident of Chiang Mai as his official domicile is located in Mae Rim district.

Commenting on the opposition movement led by the People's Alliance for Democracy, he said he had assigned Deputy Prime Miminster Chavalit Yongchaiyudh to negoiate with the PAD.

He said street protests had tarnished the country's reputation and that he would try to find a resolution that would save face for all parties concerned.

Ok, the report goes on to say that he's going to a high level meeting today at parliament to get things back on course, went to a temple, encountered a protester or two who shook plastic clapping hands(symbol of PAD protest), a few PAD protesters rocked up at the restaurant he was going to and got 'carted' off etc.

All I can Say is 'WOW!', didn't know that. Doesn't seem like the thing to do or does it just show how hopelessly divided the country is?

All comment are welcome.

No news there, it has been plainly obvious that the puppet replacement for the PPP/TRT party would be another Thaksin crony.

What surprises me is that PAD have, so far, been quiet about it.

Fair enough Buksi, what surprises me is he's so blatant about it.

That's nothing, the current government actually sent the recommendation for the new cabinet back to the UK to Thaksin for approval - he is still running the show despite the fact that he is a criminal here in Thailand.

"A complete load of bollocks" is the phrase you're looking for I believe.

OK, true, was aware of that, trying not to be too cynical. Can you elaborate on why PAD is so quiet, seems strange.

Thanks.

Interesting STEVE G, must be time to 'mop up', 'clear the decks', 'draw a line under things', 'sweep it under the carpet', 'round up the dissenters' etc.

Things are obviously not what they seem(imagine that).

Just seems to happened 'all of a sudden', which smells of a ...............

HHHHmmmm.

(BangkokPost.com) - Britain’s Home Office has confirmed that deposed prime minister and former owner of Manchester City Football Club Thaksin Shinawatra and his wife Potjaman have applied to seek political asylum and stay in Britain, http://www.bangkokpost.com/breaking_new ... ?id=131139

Laughable, but sadly inevitable. The news that he made 3 billion baht profit selling Man C was more shocking to me!

More seriously, it will be very interesting to see how the UK government handle this application. I don't have a lot of faith in anything much these days (apart from my Little Font of Wisdom, of course), but I would dearly love to see this silly claim rejected quickly ( :lach: ) and finally.

Unfortunately, I suspect that with the money available to them Mr & Mrs T have a number of other options available to them.

Spitfire - is this your comment, or is there a case of ID theft on the Internet?

Interesting to know that after giving enough time to Thaksin and Pojama to apply for political asylum in Britain ,police in Thailand arrest Chaiwat and Chamlong.
Soon London will be flooded with "political asylum seeker " waving thick bundles of money.

At least Shinawatra family is safe in England when hell breaks loose in Thailand.

"Justice has to be done".
This is the way

(Ha ha JD, no worries)

I'm flattered to have somone imitating me, I'm welling-up. 8)

A guess would be that it might be from The House of Lords. I think there is a Lord Spitfire hanging out on the back-benches somewhere, not getting involved too much with any issues unless he's had a few too many Drambuies.

Definatley not me as I wouldn't be naive enough to think that "justice" will ever be done on this one. London is full of these rich 'done a runner', 'ex-leader' types that want to be safe and forget the past. It is often the last stop on the road for many.

You'll have to let us know where you dug that up from DM. Thanks for alerting me to the imposter. :thumb:
