I haven't voted because I live here. I don't know of anybody canceling plans for any reason but I understand from the UK travel industry that it is happening. Bookings are well down anyway to all tourist destinations. I have not seen any evidence that Thailand is suffering anymore than any other country.
A key difference with Thailand is that many so called tourists are actually people who have connections here so will not be put off so easily.
BTW Kev, you can easily avoid Bangkok when traveling from Hoa Hin to Isan but you still might encounter the odd road block.
I must admit the thought of the MIB totting M79s is a bit concerning.

I think we pretty much know the connection to Isaan. Without that connection one would more clearly see it as a fairly featureless plateau, dry and brown and poor.
Don't get me wrong, I've spent time there. But without the "connection" I think one could easily find more interesting areas in Thailand.

As Ozuncle says above - it's not so much the political situation, rather the financial uncertainty that might make me reconsider (but only if it keeps getting worse!).
Booked a week for the end of Oct, and sorting out Xmas as we speak!!!!

I understand what you are saying Guess, but I built a house there for my partner on family land that we were given, basically so she could be with her family whilst I’m working away, but now I find I actually enjoy staying up there for a while.
It’s just a simple rural life that you could find anywhere in Thailand, but I find it very relaxing.
Incidentally, I have a vague feeling that I was drunk in Nangrong last year with Irish Kev at a friends wedding, but it might be someone else!
As a repeat visitor the political situation wouldn't stop me coming for a holiday. I can understand why it would put package tourists off though.
However, the uncertain financial & employment situation has made us put off even thinking about coming to Thailand for a few months at least. We had planned to come in December or April but those plans are abandoned. I therefore voted yes.
If I end up in Thailand in the next six months it means one of two things have happened:
1. I've won the lottery
2. It's all gone tits up and I've done a runner

Guess, if you remember the 'Province of Thai partners' thread. It showed that 47% of this forums Thai partners come fron Issan. It stands to reason that they will want to return home to their families, children and settle down with their partners. Being a poor area many are sent out to eek a living elsewhere...
