The Federation of Thai Industries (FTI) warns that Thailand’s export output has plunged 30 per cent and the slump could last until the start of 2009.
Finally woken up then, the start of 2009? Maybe misjudged that by about 12 months!
The industrial sector may, notice the use of the word MAY, cut 10 to 15% of the workforce or 900,000 to 1 million employees.
A piss in the ocean then! Just another 1 million girls about to arrive in Walking Street, Patong Beach and the Bintabart.
FTI deputy chairman Thanit Sorat said quote “Thailand is now facing both economic and political crises while other countries have to deal with the global economic downturn,
and he could not see the answers to the problems,”
Open your eyes, it is amazing what you can see if you try, engaging the brain sometimes helps!
The economic breakdown is a global problem and the country could not put it under control said FTI deputy chairman Dusit Nontanakorn.
Nothing we can do boys, not our problem, heads back in the sand.
Just noticed that there are two deputy chairmen, must be a complicated job then.
Chonsawat Asavahame, son of the fugitive former politician Vatana was today handed a 12 month suspended jail sentence for assaulting a traffic policeman when the officer tried to stop his vehicle at a checkpoint set up to screen drunk drivers last year. Mr Chonsawat served as deputy secretary to Samak Sundaravej when he was premier. In 2006, he was sentenced to four years in jail for electoral fraud during Samut Prakan's mayoral election, with his voting rights revoked for 10 years. Up to 1,000 false ballot cards were found in the 1999 election. The case is now with the Appeals Court.
Right bundle of laughs this character. Setting an example to the rest of the country, just like his father did!
Pm visits the deep south. The premier said he will discuss with relevant units so officials would not face obstacles when performing their duties.
What like someone waking them up?
Thailand firewall to block 'offensive' websites. The Ministry of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) plans to spend about 100 million to 500 million baht to build a gateway to block websites with contents defaming the royal institution. He said his ministry will give more attention to websites violating lese majeste laws than pornographic, obscene and terrorist websites.
Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall>>>>>>>> 100 to 500 million baht! Has anyone bothered to take a look at how many people are destitute in this country!
Prime Minister and Defence Minister Somchai Wongsawat had discussed this with the "intelligence" units.
ERH!!!!!! I have checked, I have not misread this.
House Speaker Chai Chidchob insisted quote “ that although the charter amendments start off by the joint decision from four parties, it does not mean that they all must agree on them.”
Have it your way then!
Meeting turns abusive. The parliamentary meeting to discuss the Thai-Cambodian border dispute on Tuesday became unruly as MPs and senators engaged in a verbal brawl. Varin Thiemjaras and Mrs Rosana told House Speaker Chai Chidchob that they heard People Power party (PPP) MP Karun Hosakul say he wanted to kick a senator. Consequently, a number of MPs and senators joined an escalating war of words before Mr Karun explained he had only complained to himself: "This type of senator should get kicked." The House speaker then scolded the PPP MP and warned him to control his temper, and decorum was restored.
Behave!!!!!!!! Stand in the corner and take 100 lines “I must not complain loudly to myself”
Puea Pandin party member Prasong Kositanont on Tuesday resigned as deputy minister of interior citing health problems. Chaiyos Chiramethakorn said Mr Prasong would like a person with sufficient knowledge and capability to replace him. Puea Pandin was likely to propose Mr Chaiyos as the new deputy minister.
Mr Chaiyos would say that wouldn’t he being as he is after the job. “Sufficient knowledge and capability” I would have thought that was a pre-requisite for any job.
Thaksin should cancel phone call. Sanoh Thienthong called on his former political ally, ex-premier Thaksin Shinawatra, not to destroy his reputation by making a phone call to a political talk show in Thailand. Mr Sanoh said Mr Thaksin's action would only damage himself, so it should not be done.
A bit late really I would have thought.
Mr Sanoh then said, there are ways out of ongoing political turmoil, only if all sides follow the constitution and put forward the benefit of the country. But if everyone only cares about his/her own benefit, then it would be hard to find a solution, he added.
Does he truly think he can change a nations way of thinking, his/her own benefit, get real my friend.
Thaksin cancels phone call and will call live over the internet.
That’s all the CAT, TT&T and TOT adsl subscribers out of the running then.
Bank deposit guarantees approved by cabinet. In an attempt to shore up bank depositors confidence amid the global financial crisis, which originated in the US and spread to Europe, the cabinet on Tuesday gave the green light to extend full guarantees for bank deposits by another two years until August 10, 2011, said Finance Minister Suchart Thada-Thamrongvech. Tuesday's cabinet decision is in response to the worldwide credit crunch which has left countries with a shortage of funds and at least some panicked investors, who fear that their money will not be safe in banks.
And at least “some” panicked investors !!! Some meaning hordes of scared individuals queuing to cash in bank accounts and insurance savings and global investors selling every international holding they have. This should be entered for this years understatement!
Mr Suchart said the extension of full guarantee to bank depositors will help prevent depositors from withdrawing money and making their deposits with banks in the US, Europe and even in some Asian countries such as Singapore, Malaysia and Hong Kong which offer full guarantees to depositors.
Why, what does he know about Thai banks that we don’t and probably should ?
In another development, the government will attempt to create jobs as it believes that the US financial problem may have not reached its peak yet, said Mr Suchart.
This guy wins the understatement award of the year hands down.
Just one more day in politics in paradise!
And tomorrow brings fresh challenges!
If I could find someone, somewhere with some money left I would not be bored and I could go away and leave you all in peace again!!!
A look at a political day in Thailand
