If I'd known it would work out better this way I could've gone to Phuket with Jetstar! But now that I've chosen a Bangkok flight it would add quite a bit to then fly to Phuket & then Samui. I don't mind Bangkok - just want to get to the beach...

All the suggestions have been good ones - thanks guys :D

If you have already booked your ticket with Jetstar to Bangkok, can't you ask if you can change it to go to Phuket instead? That would save a lot of hassle. Unless you decide to go somewhere else entirely that is north or east of Bangkok - my suggestion would be Koh Chang but I think you said you wanted to meet someone on Samui so I would at least enquire if you can change your ticket.

At this stage I've sent a booking request with a hotel in Bangkok, so will see if they have room. If they do it's just one night & then I'm on my way again. I haven't checked with Jetstar yet, but I have a nagging suspicion that fares purchased online cannot be changed - well not for free anyway. If the accommodation falls through in BKK I'll phone Jetstar to see what they can do about a change
