That's useful Lev.
I must get down to Penang and apply for my marriage visa. No need to go to BKK or Prachuap for the year's extension or 90 day reporting. Brilliant.

Proof Of Residence

Post by JimmyGreaves »

Anyone got any experience of getting a proof of residence doc for a driving licence?

My landlord and wife are in Germany for 6-9 months.

Yep, did it last year, full details here:

The Tabien Bahn is a document that the house owner has to prove he owns the house. He can add people to it to prove they live there. This document is used by Thais to do pretty much everything in the country as its greater proof of residence than their ID cards (which are mostly wrong anyway).

You need to get the owner of the house you're renting to go to the cop shop with you and this document, the police will then type you a letter called a bai rup long tee yu asai or something. This is your proof of residence document.

Have you asked the police if it's allright if 2 genuine thais can verify where you live?
I did that. The thais were questioned by the police if they had been in my home, and they stated they had really been there.
I got my paper a bit later.

My passport only had three months to run so I went to the embassy in Bangkok on a Friday and new passport arrived by EMS on Wed morning. Very good service I thought.

OK, now lets see if Immigration in Hua Hin can transfer all the visa's over for me. In I went expecting a long wait, lot's of questions and eventual trip to Bangkok for the visa's. Not so, 30 minutes later all finished, no problems.

OK, now with new passport and visa's, over 200 A4's of paperwork in duplicate, signed and company stamped, let's see if they will give me my yearly extension. Again no problem 45 minutes this time. Only one month while all is checked by Bangkok office, (same as last year), then I should be set to just do my 90 day reporting for the next 12 months.

Hua Hin Immigration is quite efficient in my opinion, or have I just been lucky?

I notice that this office can renew non-immigrant visas. Since there are several types of non-immigrant visas, does anyone know whether this service includes all such visas, or just selected types. My particular visa is of the "Thai wife" variety.

Does anyone have any experience of renewing non-immigrant visas in HH? My personal experience with the level of service at the Bangkok office has generally been quite good -- would this also be true in HH?

Also, where is the police station located (I'm travelling from Phetchaburi).

Yep,

I recently went down to the Hua Hin Police Station Immigration office to have them check my paperwork for a one year renewal of a retirement non immigrant visa. I just went there so they could tell me if I had everything I needed before making the trip to Bkk. To my surprise they smiled and said "We can do that here!" Mine was even a complicated case because I had recently gotten a new U.S. passport and my former/current retirement visa was in an old canceled passport. They had to transfer the old visa to my new passport first and then gave me a renewal for another year with multiple exit/re-entries. It took a couple of hours but they were very nice and smiled throughout the entire experience! I give everyone who works in that office top marks!

You'd be best to check first. You should be OK to get a 10-14 day extension in BKK for 1,900 baht. I would reckon they'd do the same in HH, or any other provincial imm office.

If you're talking about a year's extension on the basis of marriage, they should do it in HH just like the previous poster's result with his retirement visa.
If you've only got a multi entry non O on the basis of visiting your wife, you'll have to exit the country to get another visa.
Police station is just off the main Petchkasem Road. Go through town till you come to a major set of lights with HH beach signposted to your left. Turn left there and the cop shop is 50 yards down on your left, opp the Post Office.

Thanks for the response, lomuamart,

I have the one-year version, so I should be OK. I'll let you all know later this week.
